Shyamalan thinking Unbreakable 2?!

September 24, 2008

Following his recent woes with critics and audiences alike, it's no surprise to hear M. Night Shyamalan is considering revisiting one of his more acclaimed efforts.

He told MTV News that he's thinking about a sequel to possibly his best film, 2000's Unbreakable. The enigmatic helmer said: "I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it's not (an idea) I ever forget... I genuinely just asked this question the other day - should I make 'Unbreakable 2'?"

Apparently the film was always meant to be part of a trilogy, but bad initial reviews and audience reaction put Shymalan off. He elaborated: "I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies."

"And If I had been more confident and said 'I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one,' that would've been the right move. I've still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it's too late."

He continued: "I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I'm able to express who I am.... I don't want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that's me in it, so maybe Unbreakable is the comic book thing I should do - I keep coming back to that."

The question is, will Willis be back to reprise his role?

Unbreakable is my favorite M.Night movie with 6th Sense behind it.
(I have only seen 4 I think, and not really into seeing the rest.)
But,
If they could bring the same actors back, I would love this.
This film made you believe Superheros could be real and walking around your town.

Glad to be of service

And he should really rethink this. His older movies remain untainted, and even people who would like to stick a boot in his smug face (like me) still agree that 6th sense and unbreakable were damn good movies (Signs was not without merit either), but whatever he had, he has lost. No wait, he only ever had one thing, and he has tried to use it over and over again.

Here is how i think his brain works:

Mentally, he takes The Sixth Sense. He photocopied it and made unbreakable. The copy is a little off from the original, but still almost as good.

Then he copied unbreakable. Signs was more off, 3rd generatrion photocopies tend to start showing some wear.

Somewhere before the Village, he spilled some coffee on the machine, and the copy (coffee being his smug over confidence in his "brilliance"), tried to hide his requisite cameo in a reflection (we recognize you, docuhebag, how many fucking Indian guys with no accent live in pennsylvania, dickhead....), and all subsequent copies have been from a damaged copy from a damaged copier.

If he's smart, he'll dig out the original or the secopnd copy if he tries to make a second unbreakable, but I doubt it. he thinks he is brilliant, so the latest copy will do.
