Pics and stories from "The Scare Fest" con in Lexington, KY
Hey folks! Just dropping in to share some pics. Some of you may remember me as I used to do a lot of writing for this very site. Hope all is well.
This weekend I had the most awesome opportunity to attend and cover "The Scare Fest" horror and paranormal convention in Lexington, Kentucky on behalf of fridaythe13thfilms.com (the site that I write for). As big of a horror fan that I am, this is my first convention. Mainly because they rarely have them close enough to me for me to be able to go. So to have one a mere 30 minutes away from my home was absolutely amazing. And to get to attend it as a member of the press...even more amazing. I got the opportunity to meet so many people and actually get to speak to them on a much better scale than I would have if I had simply just paid to attend the event. The event was headlined by a Friday the 13th cast reunion featuring Adrienne King (Alice), Betsy Palmer (Pamela Voorhees), Ari Lehman (Jason Voorhees), Victor Miller (Screenwriter), Tom Savini (FX), and Harry Manfredini (Musical Score). So this worked out really well considering I write for a Friday the 13th site. Also on hand were Sid Haig (Devils Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses), Bill Mosely (Devils Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, TCM 2), Tom Towles (Devils Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer), David Naughton (An American Wereworlf in London), Michael Berryman (Hills Have Eyes), PJ Soles (Halloween), Tony Todd (Candy Man), and Kane Hodder (Jason in part VII, VIII, IX, and X). I started my first day at the event by meeting the folks involved in the Friday the 13th series. They were all so freaking nice to me. Adrienne King was one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. She also shared a really interesting story with me from Friday the 13th which revolves around her current painting hobby. I've set up an interview with her for her to be able to get this story out there. So keep an eye out for that soon. Betsy Palmer was a trip. She went in and out of character and I must admit...it was creepy. She would start ranting about Jason and how the man in the hockey mas was not her son. Her son was dead and she wouldn't have killed anyone if he was alive. lmao. She was seriously awesome. She was nice as she could be though. When she was signing my poster she started saying "Kill her mommy! Killer her!". It was crazy. Victor Miller was really cool as well. He told me a lot about the process of writing the movie and he even told me the plot lines to two other horror scripts that were bought from him but never ended up being made. He also said he gets a check every time a Jason flick is made. But he says it's not much. Tom Savini was really cool. I've often heard that he's not that cordial with people. But he talked and chatted and had me step aside so he could shoot Ari Lehman in the back of the head with a rubberband. He then moved me back over so Lehman couldn't see him. I think Ari thought I did it for a second. He looked at me and kind of grinned and I pointed at Tom. lol. He then motioned for me to move and he shot Savini right in the nuts with the rubberband and he quoted "I just shot Savini's Weenie!". Funny stuff. Ari Lehman was an absolute trip. This guy is bouncing off the walls and very enthusiastic about having been the first Jason. He is also in a punk rock band right now called...First Jason. Great stuff. Harry Manfredini was an interesting guy to meet. You can tell he's quite intelligent. He kept poking me in the chest because my badge said "Press". I was like...wtf? He said "Well it said press". Anyway, I got a signed piece of sheet music from him which is really neat. They all signed my poster that was given to me by Adrienne King. I them went to meet up with Kane Hodder. He is a beast. And I'm sure you've seen these pics of him choking people...yeah...he honestly doesn't take it all that easy. lol. But it's all awesome. He signed my part VIII mask and commented on it. I also had two mini part VII masks that I had painted. One was to be raffled away at the event. The other was to be presented to event host Jeff Walridge. He really got a kick out of the mini and he signed them both. It was really awesome to hear him comment on something I actually painted and weathered myself since painting hockey masks has became a BIG TIME hobby of mine. I took my pic with him first in my costume. But the second day we took a pic with a friend of mine out of the costume. When he did the choking thing of me in the costume he said this was like killing himself in a sense. I got to attend the Kane Hodder panel as well as the Friday the 13th reunion panel which was recorded by Paramount for the upcoming uncut Friday the 13th special edition DVD. So you may see me in the audience on that DVD. I sat there in normal clothing during the Q & A. After it was over, they did some crowd shots and had us "laugh" and "applaud". I had on my entire Jason costume for these shots. lol. I was the only person in there randomly in the crowd in costume. So if I make the DVD...you'll see it obviously. Great stuff. Their Q & A was very informative and funny. I also attended Sid Haig's Town Hall Meeting. He is seriously running for president as a "Write in". He said his goal was to get 1 %. lol. He had some really interesting ideas and overall the town hall meeting was pretty damn funny. He's great. I also got to chat with Michael Berryman who is one of the nicest people. Very humble. Tom Towles was absolutely hilarious and I brought a few of my friends who wanted to meet him and we got to chat with him for a good while. PJ Soles was a sweetheart and took multiple pics with me and my friends who have all had a super crush on her their entire lives. David Naughton also talked for a good while which was neat. He seemed like a very cool dude. The only person I never really bothered trying to talk to was Tony Todd. I have heard mixed reviews of people who had talked to him. Not that I was worried about it. But I honestly was just kept busy during this event with the Friday the 13th stuff for the most part. I donned my costume for a bit on the first day and the second day. So many people took pics with me. I went to the car at one point and it took me a long time to get back due to the pics being taken. lol. A lady from the newspaper followed me all the way out of the building snapping pics. And a mother wanted pics of me with her three girls and they were scared to death. The second day when I had it on, a dude had me take a pic with his girlfriend and she was about to cry because apparently she has a "Jason Phobia"...weird . But it was all in fun. Of course there were tons of dealers etc and I spent more money than I needed to. But that's just part of it. After the first night I got to attend to VIP party at the Raddison Hotel in downtown Lexington. This was very nice and something I never thought I would get to experience. Lots of free food and drink. A cash bar (I don't drink. But cool for those who do) and karaoke. It was actually quite a laid back party in a big ass ballroom. There were waiters walking around etc. It was like something out of a movie. This was really cool. Just unbelievable to get to simply mingle with these people in such a setting. I actually got to show Kane Hodder were the Raddison is. For some reason...there's no sign on the building that says Raddison which he pointed out to the folks when he walked in. lol. I honestly just felt way out of my league at this thing. But it was a blast. I didn't take that many pics at the VIP mainly because I was just in awe. Plus the lighting was very dim and I don't think they turned out that well. It's been an amazing weekend. Better than I could have imagined. Here are a few pics. There will be more once I get them edited and uploaded. These are just a few pics of me with some of the people I met. Here is just a small few. There are tons of pics. PICS IN NEXT REPLY...

![]() In the pic where I'm wearing the costume, I painted that mask on my own. Anyone interested in seeing other mask paint jobs that I have done please check out my photo album http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk173/Myjasonmask/ There are step by step pics of a part VIII I did as well as a few others including the mini masks that I mentioned above. If anyone is interested in acquiring a painted hockey mask, feel free to drop me a PM or you can email me at [email protected] and I can give you more info. Thanks for looking folks!

Yeah. Jason is all I currently do. I don't mold the masks either. They come completely blank and I weather and paint them. Here's what they look like when they arrive initially. They either look like this.... ![]() or this... ![]() and I turn them into what you see in the album I linked above ;) Thanks a lot for looking.
