Surprising Discoveries

This is the place for those little things you had no expectations for, and wound up finding something you love; Like the Usual Suspects for me. We went to the theater and saw it because we were bored and hell, it had that guy from the Ref (Kevin Spacey)

Little did we know it would change how we saw movies in general, but especially how I would View Kevin Spacey.

I bring this up because I rewarded myself for my first paycheck from my new job by purchasing Martini fixens. Ive been craving a nice dry vodka martini for months now. so Lily and I hit the liquor store, and i wanted to keep the budget low. There was a bottle of vodka on sale for 12 bucks, a polish brand called Luksusowa, tripple distilled potato vodka. i though, why not? the price is right (it came with 2 nips free, too), i have been pleased with every other polish vodka i have tried, and i have always wanted to try the classic POTATO vodka. So its chilled, im watching Timeline and setting up Bioshock, and i take a sip. holy SHit, this stuff is GOOD.

So, what did you "settle" for and wind up loving?

Aha!

I remember not being interested in seeing "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie" in the 80's, and someone said, "Hey, you should check it out...I think you'd enjoy it!" So I sat down and watched it and HEY! Whattaya know, it was pretty darn good! So I was happy and now I own it.

40 Year Old Virgin. Went in predisposed to hate this fucker, gun to head by girlfriend. Left laughing my ass off. Unfortunately, subsequent viewings weren't as strong, but there are still some scenes I'll find memorable for a while. And the co-worker banter is still dead on.

I cant remember what the origional movie was - but my wife and i were all set to see a film that was advertised as still playing on the theatre website - and found that it wasnt.

we were pissed but went to see another film we knew nothing about on a whim...

it was Spirited Away. I absolutely loved the film.

same thing happened a few years later and we ended up seeing The Matador - loved that one too.

Blades of Glory. I was getting a bit tired of Will Ferrell Comdedies, but now it's one of my favourites.

About 20 years ago - renting out a film on the reduced 50p shelf- taking it home, watching it and loving it..

The film was called STREET TRASH - i was alreaady a huge horror fan but i never heard of that film or anyone involved with it...

I always think of that film of one of the best ones I discovered on my own...

The vodka thing reminded me that I settled for my now favorite wine, Red Zeppelin. But it was a New York wine and now that I moved I can't find it anywhere :(
