Anyone know anything about The Preacher?
Is this thing still getting made? If so, anyone know who's playing Jesse Custer or directing?
If done well, this would be ALMOST as cool as a Jonah Hex movie. |

The last I heard (and it was a LONG time ago) was James Marsden in the lead.

Damn. I hope that's right. That's actually pretty good casting.

Yeah, I like Marsden. He's been able to pull away from the "teen" crowd and he's made good film choices.

What is this movie? I've never heard of it. Sounds interesting.

There's actually a page for it now, but sometimes they aren't accurate:

They're having some technical difficulties, but the one sentence synopsis certain sounds interesting. So I'm assuming a movie like this would be a mixture of all sorts of genres/styles?

It's from what's maybe my favorite comic of all time. It's about this small-town preacher from Texas whose soul fuses with a demon/angel hybrid, and that means that Jesse now has the Word of God, and everyone has to do whatever he says. Well, Jesse doesn't like playing host, so he and his girlfriend Tulip and a whiskey-drinking Irish vampire take to the road to find out some answers, and he intends to have a little chat with God no matter what and ask the Big Guy "Why have you forsaken us?" And for some reason Jesse is followed and given advice by John Wayne.
This is all very witty and well done. Jesse is also the cockiest character in comic history. And all this plays out using Western themes as set down by John Ford (one of the big fights actually takes place in Monument Valley where The Searchers was filmed). And there's also The Saint Of Killers, a Wild West gunman ressurected from the dead and sent to stop Jesse. He's so fast on the draw that he can actually pull leather before Jesse opens his mouth to use the Word of God. You can pick the complete series up in trade paper from DC/Vertigo now, and it's well worth the read. Last edited by Dr.Kelvinstein; 01-27-2004 at 12:22 PM. |

Okay, maybe if you are female.......

No, I watched Disturbing Behavior because of the witty Scott Rosenberg script. He's one of the best dialogue writers in Hollywood.
