Ooo. Good find.

I, too, read A Simple Plan (better book than movie) and recently polished off The Ruins. I thought that the book was fabulous... My boyfriend picked it up at the airport for horror pulp trash to read on his flight, but was pleasantly surprised that it actually had substance... Good to find an author who can come up with a good, exciting read, that's also well-written.

I found the movie teaser on YouTube.

IMDB entry.

Honestly, the teaser leaves me with doubts... I enjoyed the book, but I have a feeling that this is going to be really sensationalized. And there were portions of the book that I thought were a little silly, far-fetched, and over the top... I worry that the movie will make it worse.

I will wait until I see more previews.

I just watched Bugcrush, a short film from the director who is helming The Ruins. I had absolutely no interest in seeing The Ruins, but after this... I can't help but wonder. This short film reeked of atmosphere; of mystery, and intrigue. If the director does half of what he did right with Bugcrush, The Ruins will surely be excellent. Honestly, this was one of the best short films I have ever seen.

watched trailer for ruins - it looked like recycled shite. i hope i'm wrong but it just stank of every old cliche in recent horror memory - hostel meets cabin fever while visiting turistas - ugghhh (and its dreamworks which almost always means - commercial crap!)

It's a short film, so I'm not sure if you can pick it up solely by itself on DVD. It has been released as part of a short film collective... but it's much easier to watch it, legally, online. It also airs on the Sundance channel once in a while, I've been told.

Watch Bugcrush.

Please note that the film does revolve around homosexuality. LOGO has also remove expletives from their streaming version. It does make some segments within the short film confusing... however, you can easily tell what they are saying by doing a little lip-reading. It doesn't hinder the impact. Enjoy. :)

PS. Carter Smith landed the directing job for The Ruins based solely on this short.

Saw the trailer with "Sweeney Todd"... looks decent, but will probably be mediocre at best. That's always the case... isn't it?
