what?? they left halloween of the list?
shock and horror seriously - i think it looks good for No Country, but i'm anticipating There will be blood to slip in and pick up a number of big awards! also persepolis is a lock for best animated - and taxi to nowhere for documentary (just to help with your oscar polls)

I'm actually surprised that they picked "Surf's Up" over "The Simpsons Movie" for the third animated slot.

I never figured out what the quilifications for the Oscars were, Do they have to be in the theaters in the year that they are representing? And how do they go about voting?

I've been feeling really patriotic lately so I'm definately cheering for Juno (Ellen Page and Jason Reitman) and Away from Her (Sarah Polley).
As zero said, Persepolis had got it for best animated. No Country for Old Men will take home a ton of awards. There Will be Blood can go either way. it just came out recently so it either made less of an impact than No Country, or a larger one cause it's fresh on the Academy's Minds. Who knows. I also hope Atonement gets at least one award because it's just an amazing movie.

The movie has to have premiered in the previous year. So this years Oscars are in 2008 but the movies have to have played in 2007. They also have to be at least 40 minutes long, been in 35mm or 70mm and played in an L.A. theatre for 7 days straight. Then the Academy votes for their top 5 in each category which determines the nominees. After the nominees are announced the academy votes on their favourites out of that top 5 to determine the winner.
