Hellraiser Franchise

What does everyone think about it?

I've been watching through them over the past few days, and so far, it's okay. The first three were fantastic. The fourth is where I think it started going down hill. The fifth is almost un-watchable. I haven't gotten any further yet.

I must say though, the story line is confusing for me and almost impossible to follow. It seems like it changes in every movie. They don't stick to one theme. Not to mention everytime you watch the next one, it's never a continuation of the previous with the exception of the first two.

I would also like to add, the first and second ones are some of the most atmospheric horror films to date. The backdrop for them just gives me chills.

The first two are great, and the third isn't bad, But I fooking hated part 4. I thought it was total shit! It just didn't need to be made. Then it was the one with the detective wasn't it?

I've also just watched them recently. And on the whole 4> are a pile of shit. IMHO I found the sequels to be repetitive , with the same madness cycle, each told differently.

The only think I liked about the fourth one, was the favt that it did retain some of the atmosphere of the first 3. The rest have none.

I think the number of sequels actually makes Pinhead look soft and easy to bargain with.

That and the fact that later, he becomes more of a thing that people seem to imagine, more than actually exist.

I actually enjoyed them all a bit, they are a few of my guilty pleasures. Loved the first one of course, and part two also except for the ending. Three was entertaining as hell. Bloodline was pretty damn awful, some good ideas near the beginning though. Inferno was kind of a bore, just dragged on and on, but was sometimes a decent morality tale. It didn't "feel" like a Heallraiser film though. But I can respect them trying something a little different. Hellseeker was similar in a lot of ways, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit more. The others were entertaining and I still like them well enough, but nothing really special.
Overall, I probably enjoyed the Hellraiser sequels more than the sequels of any of the other horror franchises. I like the way they changed it up a bit in several of them, and I have a soft spot for Pinhead. ;)
