SAW V - What's the verdict?

I assume some people here have seen it already - I am planning to sometime next week.

So - is it any good, at all?
I've heard one or two negative reviews, but it seems largely to do with the same problem anyone ever has with the saw films, continuity stuff, confusion, time jumps...etc...

Now, I loved the first saw and don't think any of the sequels have really done it a great deal of justice, but they all have their moments.
#2 was a completely different kind of movie, reminded me a bit more of cube but ultimately an entertaining watch, with a couple of good twists.
#3 was a bit of a let-down I thought, it was very convoluted, and I think easily the weakest of the series - to this day I have not seen it again since the cinema...I was ready to give up on the franchise at this point...it felt deliberately 2-part, which turned out to be the case, because a fair bit of the plot and characters of that film continued on in...
#4 I saw no need to bring the Whalberg character back, I'll say that from the get-go...but I thought this was actually a huge improvement on the film prior.
The proper jigsaw origin story was one of the best scenes/moments of all the saw films...my only problem with this one was that two of the cops looked pretty similar, and in the end I was left wondering who did what, and when - although I think upon a rewatch (yes, I actually think this one is worth rewatching) I'll get all that sorted.

I just don't know what to expect with #5...
Anyone who's seen it - how does it rate against the others?

I haven't seen it yet but I've been hearing it was better than IV. Also, I completely agree with you on the confusion at the end of Saw IV. The cops might as well have been twins.

I've liked all of them but we can start by saying that none of them will have the impact of the first. V is also more like a crime drama with less gore than the other films, I think this worked. A lot of backstory came into play but I think it was necessary and all things considered this one ended up being pretty damn good. My rankings would be, starting with the best:

I
II
V
IV
III

So is Saw 5 supposed to be the last one? I wasn't sure but the tagline led me to believe this.

I've heard that they've committed to making 7 of them. After seeing V I will see VI and if they continue to be decent I will continue my Halloween tradition with friends. I'm sure if VII makes enough cash and is decent they'll push for more though, or least do a spin-off. I can honestly say that I've enjoyed the series as a whole more than Fri. 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street (even though certain movies in those series are better than any Saw flick) so I'm all for them milking it.

I'm fairly indifferent. The 1st one is easily the best on all accounts. The rest are watchable-decent, so, like you said, as long as they continue that way, why not?

I wasn't planning on going at all to be honest, because Saw 4 was such a disappointment to me. I have went to see every Saw on opening night, so as the night went on, I felt out of place I suppose for not going.

So, I went. Great up until the last 2-3 minutes. For me it ruined the movie.

Without spoilers, lets just say that the movie is amazing, but then when you least expect it the there's an extra twist that could possibly ruin it all for you personally.

I rated it a D- on yahoo movies just because of the last 2-3 minutes.

I was also confused at the end. I'd had a couple of beers before going so I was embarrassed when I had to ask my younger bro what happened. I wasn't drunk but he probably thought I was. I love Justin Louis, the actor, but I forgot what his name was in IV. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing 5.

I highly enjoyed the first 3 parts and sometimes I think it'd be better if they stopped at III. Though it was watchable as a time passing thriller but part 4 disappointed me in every way and I have no expectations from this series anymore.

I guess there are already some stupid makers eagerly waiting for the time when the series will come to an end, so that they can starts to screwing around the franchise.
