The Best Gialli
All right everybody, I need your help. My partner and I are producing a neo-Giallo movie that we wrote. We have an actress interested, but she's never heard the term "Giallo" before.
I want to clue her into the genre, but don't want to scare her off. They are quite an acquired taste. I told her that an American version Giallo is Se7en - John Doe even wears the classic Giallo slasher costume. I'm thinking Tenebre & Profundo Rosso But I wouldn't necessarily recommed Opera or Stage Fright or Cat o'Nine Tails What others are great for a beginner to the genre? Even tougher question...which one has the best acting?

I'd say Deep Red, but Tenebre is a great choice as well.

Well, you know I love anything Argento, so I believe Profondo Rosso and Tenebre are a must. Maybe even Inferno.
How 'bout some Bava? Black Sunday, anyone?

not really in step with what I've created.
I still haven't seen Inferno (I know, I know, I'll see it soon) any other suggestions for an actress to view?

For me it is either deep red or tenebre.

I saw a trailer for Eyes of Crystal and it looked like a good newer giallo. Maybe show her Don't Torture a Duckling, I think it's a great and often overlooked film.

I've always thought Deep Red/Profondo Rosso was the most solid of all, the best acted. Most interesting characters and even a well-designed romance built in. Transcends its genre while still delivering real horror.

I know I rave about Profondo Rosso way too much, but it really is, in my opinion, not only the greatest giallo, but one of the most thrilling horror films of all time. It's an intricate web of style, mystery, comedy, and flat out terrifying horror. I think Se7en is a good suggestion, Rod, it does have kind of a style that would match yours, methinks.

is it just me or does the bad dubbing in these films act against them? i don't think it would be a bad idea for argento to remake some of his movies now he has a reputation and the inevitable budget that ensues. i haven't seen profondo rosso and to be honest i hadn't even heard of it when i bought it but i hope its nothing like tenebrae. also, would you class that dirty harry movie with the zodiac killer as a giallo? its a beauty!

The bad dubbing has nothing to do with Argento. He didn't make the films for Americans, he made them for his own country, so he probably wasn't too concerned at the time about impressing America with fancy dubbing. Not to mention, Argento doesn't do the dubbing...
