GORE: has the horror movie genre gone too far?

a day ago i just got done watching texas chainsaw massacre the beggining..unrated,it was very gory.....i then watched leatherface tcm3..there was a documentary..they all said the unrated version would get a X back in the 80's....now what would happen if they still handed out the big X movies like saw and hostel(i think hostel sucks and it has no story) they would have got banned from theatres...i dont have much time so i leave you with this...have movies gone too far...or not far enough

I think films simply have to keep up with the changing audience. What was gory then well its not anymore. Also with new special effects/props etc things look more realistic. As to the question of has it gone too far or not far enough well there would be lots of points of arguement there. Films need to keep up with a changing audience but the world is changing and becoming more volient do we want to promote that?

I would agree...there are more violence fans now then back in the 80's...i honestly can't think of a reason why people get these ideas for these horrible movies, and yet people like me just eat them up....the things that make people close their eyes are the things that i'm used to...i think movies have not gone far enough....maybe when the whole movie shows people getting ripped apart, then i'll say you crossed the line. But until then i'm all for the gore.

Gore has never done much for me because too many directors end up making it the main focus. I think it can enhance a story, but I don't care for it when it is used in place of a story.

There is no such thing as a line that cannot be crossed in film. Someone will always come along and raise (or lower - depending on your view) the bar.

Which I think is great because with film there's always choice. If you believe something is "too much" or somebody went "too far" in a movie then you don't have to watch it. On the other hand, if you're craving something more visceral or intense you'll probably be ablt to find it, either now or in the near future.

You don't know that though. You're infering that nothing can have that kind of impact on you but you have no idea what's to come. If it's something new, something fresh and different, then you can't say it won't have that kind of an impact because you don't know what it may be. If somebody did the same thing Miike did but just piled on more blood and fetuses (feti?) then I can see where it wouldn't have an impact. You're disregarding the possibility of something new, viscious and violent beyond anything you could have imagined.

Wait until you see the female slasher heh. Some normal woman suddenly loses it as her four year old makes his way into the SUV and she starts slamming the door on her child until he's dead. That's just how the movie starts!
