Call it fate... Karma... Comeuppance....
My wife called me on the way to work today. It seems that a real estate agent filed charges against a man for threatening him with violence.
It seems that the agent sold this guy a house, and the guy and his family moved in. But why would he threaten his agent after they bought the house? Were there mice? Maybe, but that is hardly the kind of thing that would drive a rational man to threaten violence. Maybe there were termites, or wood rot that was not disclosed? Nope and Nope. Perhaps Asbestos? I know that would piss me off really bad. But Still, no. Maybe, perhaps perchance, he failed to mention that their new next door neighbor was going to be a registered sex offender? Yep, I think that could be it. So being the big man he is, he presses charges against the guy. it seems that little detail isnt covered in Full Disclosure in this state. Why do i say Justice? Well, that kind of thing cant be good for business. The guy is so set on making a sale he wont share that the guy next door may possibly rape his wife and/or kids? I have some personal insight into how this guy does business, because, you see, WE bought our house from him too. We had to replace the master bathroom tub the week after our honeymoon because it had been leaking for years and rotted out the floor (we were married 2 months after moving in). We have to replace the windows because they piss air like a collender. We had to replace the water heater: it leaked and fell through the floor. We had a pipe burst in the middle of summer. No reason, just shitty maintenance. We had found places where the previous owner's cat had pissed in the same place so often, the floor was wet a year and a half AFTER she had moved out (the house had been unoccupied for a year when we bought it). We had gone with the housing inspector he recommended. Stupid us. W3e4 decided we might try to sell the house because we had made some improvements. We asked if we should mention (morally, ethically and legally) that the windows and doors leaked horribly in the winter. he said "I dont think you have to, and I wouldnt. People have to expect that kind of thing in a home this old". Nice. Would have been great to hear BEFORE we were locked into a 30 year mortgage, dickhead. The man who threatened him stated publicaly that he "Stands by his threat." I love this man. AND we have decided, as a couple, that if this goes to trial, we will probably approach the guy who made the threat and offer to testify as character witnesses against the real estate agent. Nasty, grey-toothed freak. i swear, he looks like his mom and dad were brother and sister. And he drives a PT Cruiser. Bleh.

This was 2 years ago, it is our first house. Basically, we didnt know any better, and the people we were asking questions of (eg: My parents) were useless, not giving us any real idea of what to look for, be careful of, etc.
We got the house inspected, it got a clean bill of health, then we moved in and slowly but surely started discovering problems. Did i mention that our first winter there, the furnace (which passe dinspection  ) stopped working during a cold snap that lasted a week. the internal temperature of the house dropped to about 30 on most days, unless we had a spcae heater and several candles going in that room. We actually turned on the oven and left it open for a half hour ata time jsut to try and keep the place warm. We lost 5 fish and a pet mouse to the cold. thnak god the dog was okay, as were our rats at the time. And THANK GOD Lily wasnt born yet.

Comeuppance...mmm...that word tastes so good.
I thought that it was illegal...FEDERALLY... to sale a house and not tell the buyers that their neighbor is a sex offender? I mean, if that's the case, not only is this guy going to be paying lots of cash (actually he'll probably run like hell), but he's going to lose his liscense as well (and probably establish a forgery somewhere else). If he works for a firm, they're going to get fined.
