For anyone who gives a...

Okay, totally not related to horror like all the other shit in this part of the forum.

Right -o the National Geographic Channel is showing this documentary of animals in the womb, right. Okay, it shows how, the fetus develops, and while it's developing physically, it begins to develop it's instinctive behavioral patterns.

It's kind of amazing, even if you aren't as keen on animals as I am and a few others here are.

The only concern I have is that there's a baby elephant that they're gonna show...I'm assuming the animals are not put through stress. However, how you would get that could of footage from the womb of an elephant is subject to question, at least for me.

I have seen the ad for it a few times.
About a week ago they put up something on yahoo about it and showed a few pics. Geez. Its amazing how clear and distinct these pics are. Very cool to see something new.
Im not sure how exactly these sort of photos were taken. Hopefully yeah they haven't done anything to stress these animals out.
The dolphin one I saw was pretty cool. It showed the different stages throughout the babys growth. It doesn't even look like a dolphin at first. Actually the first few pics of the dolphin I saw I think was weeks apart from each other and still didn't show up as a dolphin.

Very educational for kids tho some of them might get a bit weirded out by the photos.

I think the point behind the show is the demonstrate how animals begin to develop there instincts, for instance the puppy is shown to be panting in the womb. It takes through the development of the fetus.

You know, the only true instinct (in the real since of the word) that humans contain is suckling, so that's why you see a lot babies sucking their thumbs in the mother.

If the animals are not stressed it's a good way to emphasize that animals are alive, are creation, are important, are not really different...

Maybe the intention is to make people stop and think... and appreciate what is normally ignored and taken for granted.

Hmmm....

I'm sure the "point" is to show something sensational in hopes it will draw in viewers to raise ratings to bring their advertising rate up and increse profits:p

but I'll totally be watching, looks cool - and the kids will love it

I think it'd be somewhat educational.
Can't rightly say I know about the process by which they obtained the information either, but I can't see national geo really doing anything abusive towards animals, I'm sure they'd have had a few experts on board for this one...
May watch it if it comes on.

I can reeeeeeally relate to what you're saying! I like animals a lot more than most humans. They are so honest and full of love, well, pets are anyway. Wild animals show their love in different ways to their fellow animals in their family or pack or herd or whatever.

I saw commercials for that show too, but dammit, I only get network channels. I don't suppose anyone would be willing to tape it for me would they? :o

...never mind. :)

I actually have tremendous faith in humanity, just none in corporate decision making.

I love animals, but don't like pets. The "unconditional love" they give is simply dependancy. The humans in my life are there bcause they chose to be, not because I bought them.

And I say this to you, Haunted as a friend who enjoys your company...a human who can articulate emotions and wants you to know that I care:)

Oh God, here I go again expressing my opinion and probably gonna piss people off again, but...

When I buy a pet, I wait for the one to come to me, so I think the pets that I have chosen have also chosen me. Ok, stay with me on this. Your wife chose you just as you chose her or whatever order it happened for you guys. Your children, however, do not have any choice in the deal. They didn't chose you and in most cases, you didn't choose them. However, the bond and the love is almost indescribable. As weird as it may seen, some of us actually feel that way about our pets, especially if human children were not an option.

BTW, I got a new puppy. BenGee lived to be 17, so I bought the same breed again. He's wonderful.

So, blah blah blah, hope ya don't hate me for saying all of this.
