Movie Premises That You Wish Were Possible...(SPOILERS Are Inevitable Here)

In 'Godsend' a couple who loses their son, uses his DNA to clone him so they can have him back...If the doctor hadn't been selfish, you are supposed to assume that the child would have turned out okay...If you were in this situation in real life, and this were possible...Would you try to 'bring back' your child this way?

In...umm...shit...I forgot the name of the movie, but you guys will know it...Anyway...You can bring back your dead pet through cloning (I forgot the name of the company in the movie, too)...If it were possible, would you do THAT?

In 'Cut' a computer chip is implanted in your brain at the time of your birth...It uses your eyes as lenses to record EVERY SECOND of your life...At the time of your death, a 'cutter' (Robin Williams in the movie) has the job of editting your entire life to create a video homage at your funeral for your family to watch and keep...There have been MANY times in my life when I had wished that certain experiences had been recorded, but I would NOT want EVERY moment viewed by a stranger...How about you guys?

These are only a few quick examples...I know that you guys can come up with lots of them...

So...What do YOU wish you could actually do?...And are you sure that you would REALLY want to be able to do it?...Consider the possible 'down sides'...As in Pet Sematary...Wishmaster...Or The Monkey's paw

I'm sure we all can think of something which if we were allowed to do or even what if I had done differently.

I believe that everything happens for a reason - Final Desination etc.
If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't, then it won't.
erh ...

If Einstein was still around, he'd probably have a better answer.

In some sci-fi thing...maybe one of the star treks, I remember something was said about the transporter technology being able to screen out any bad genetic shit going on in your body, eg - get rid of sickness and disease, and eliminate the potential, before putting you back together.
So, if everyone could just die peaceful of old age without becoming all decrepit 'n shit, I think that would be ok.

Human flight...no doubt bought up in heaps of movies...who wouldn't wanna be able to just levitate to wherever the hell you want.

The butterfly effect...but, maybe just for viewing purposes...to see all the "what ifs" of your life unfold.

Actually...That was what Seth (Jeff Goldblum in The Fly) said he THOUGHT was happening, because he was becoming stronger, faster, more agile and more alert with heightened senses (sight, hearing, smell, etcetera) and generally feeling healthier and younger...At least, before he started to deteriorate...He didn't know it was because he was turning into a fly...

But that does bring up a good one...It would be awesome to be able to teleport instantly anywhere at any time...But, I would be seriously concerned about the possible ramifications...It isn't worth risking your health (life) for

If Jason Voorhees was an Olympic Swimmer ......
If Jesus wasn't Crucified, Would there be Christianity? (Not a film, but...)
The Shark in Jaws swims away, like in the book.

Fatherland: (Rutger Hauer) shows what would happen if Germany won WW2.

Nope, not what I'm talking about anyways. It was one of the spacey ones, I know this because they used really dorky terminology like "pattern buffers"...etc...I think it may have been ST, 'cos they were using one of those transporter beam things.
Besides, Seth went in with a fly, he mighta been ok otherwise...well, with further research.

Thinking more on that, if point to point transporter tech DID exist...it'd sure make travel a hell of a lot quicker and cheaper, and id your whole being DID become atomised or whatever, screening out disease wouldn't be that much more farfetched than the tech itself.
I still stand by this one.

Oh...I know...I just meant that it was brought up in The Fly, also...You reminded me of it when you mentioned the other thing...Sorry for the confusion.

As for the teleportation idea in general...Even if they had successfully done it on a regular basis...I still wouldn't trust it...The thought of being atomized and reassembled on ANY level (especially cellular) makes me extremely nervous...

I'm not thinking of a movie, but rather a book: A Wrinkle in Time. I want Mrs. Witch to teach me her Witchcraft so I could "do," "conceptualize" (because if you can conceptualize then you can) the tesseract. That would rock. Then I could go anywhere. An-y-where-r. ...For instance, to Oz to warn the Elphaba, aka The Wicked Witch of the West, who really isn't wicked. ...And...(shutupshutup!)
