Pizza box killers jailed for life

Two young men who covered a man's face with a pizza box before they kicked him to death have been jailed for life.

Brian Sim and Thomas Peacock, both 21, were found guilty by a jury of murdering Douglas Lambie, 45, in Barrhead last December.

Peacock must serve a minimum of 17 years and Sim must serve at least 15-and-a-half years.

Judge Lord Uist said: "This was an unprovoked, brutal, vicious and merciless attack on a defenceless man."

A trial heard they covered Mr Lambie's head with a pizza box to stop his blood spoiling their designer clothes.

Their victim was close to home when he was attacked in Walton Street, in the early hours on 17 December.

He choked on his own blood after the attack, during which he was punched, kicked and battered with bottles.

'Innocence claim'

There were 37 injuries to Mr Lambie's face and neck and a pathologist said the injuries were the worst he had seen.

Peacock of Stewart Street, Barrhead, and Sim, of Crosslees Court, Thornliebank, denied murder but a jury found them guilty.

Lord Uist ordered Peacock to serve at least 17 years before he could apply for parole because of "the nature and extent of the violence".

Sim was told that his minimum sentence would have been 16 years but because of time already served on remand Lord Uist reduced it to 15-and a-half years.

Another man, Scott Blair, 21, of Patterton Drive, Barrhead, was jailed for 15 months for assaulting Mr Lambie, burning the pizza box afterwards and washing the shoes he had been wearing.

Defence QC Donald Findlay said Peacock was ashamed of what he had done in spite of boasting in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Norman Ritchie QC, for Sim, said he still maintained he had played no part in the murder.

i demand and expect quality.

Perhaps he would have been better off with a calzone...

Seriously though, less than 20 years for a pretty fucking callous murder? screw that. life or the death penalty... but then again, it sounds like it is english, so they may not have that option...
