Thumbs up the excorcist

the excorcist is the scariest movie of all time i think. i watched it today & it still gives me goosebumbs. i think its scary because its based on facts. it scared audiences then, it scares them now. you know that the director did his job when people today still talks about it. the acting, the storyline, the plot were excellent. anyone who can say that when they first saw it, & wasent scared, theyre lying to u. theres not movies today that can scare u like the excorcist did.

I 100%, tried and true, was not scared by this film. I watched it a few years ago at night with a friend. Naming it the "scariest movie of all time" also removes fear from it - since you're expecting so much of it already, before even watching it.

I knew the Exorcist was based on a novel but I didn't know it was based on facts.

Right up there with Jaws and Vertigo, this is one of the most overrated movies ever made.

I urge you all to read the book! Though the movie was well made, it lacks so much. The book puts the movie to shame, especially in terms of character development.

DO you feel the same about The Shining? I think that's one of my favorite 'classic' horror moives.

Excuse me for butting in here, but I think personally that the exorcist had been out of circulation for so long, that most of the hype was built around peoples memories about it. You have to remember that the time this was made, things were nowhere near as horrible in the real world as they are today, so people were probably a lot easier to shock than they are now.

Yeah, so I've seen the exorcist, I wasn't shocked, but then I'm not old enough to have seen it the first time round (just!). I saw this film only a few years ago, when it was first re-released on DVD. I'd already by this time seen a hell of a lot worse!

I saw Salems Lot when I was younger, and it scared the fucking living daylights out of me. And do you know what, it's still my best all time horror movie next to hellraisers first 3 films. To this day I still absolutely shit myself when I watch it, but I still have to watch it! But after all these years, it still makes an impact on me, and I think that's my exorcist.

The shining for instance though, I absolutely fucking love that movie too. It has jack nicolson as the main dude, it has stanley kubrick as the director, stephen king was the writer! For a combination in a horror film, it doesn't get much better than that. It's the perfect cocktail!
