Superstition (1982) A.K.A The Witch

A family moves into a long-condemned New England household with a big pond out back that everybody loves to swim in. Soon, however, they find that the pond was the site of the execution- by-drowning of a witch three hundred years before, and she's back to revenge herself on anybody nearby, whether they're Catholic or not...

Any love for this long forgotten early 80's flick? It starts off with a bang, a head explodes in a microwave! And a kid gets cut in two trying to escape out of a window. I picked up the DVD not long ago and it hasn't aged to well but it's still a fun lil' horror movie in a mean spirited way.

Wow, I'll have to check that out....never seen it but heads in microwaves is ok by me....I remember vaguely seeing something drowning a kid in a pond when I was young, but that's the only thing I remember about the movie....is there a scene like that?

A Kid doesn't drown in the pond, but a girl does go for a swim in the pond and comes out with a severed hand around her ankle! :D
Plus the Witch in the film enjoys more painful ways to despatch people.

This may jog your memory if you've seen it or not:

I don't wanna over hype it, but if you like early 80's stuff like The Kindred, I think you'll enjoy it.

I'll have to watch it. 80's horror is a lot of fun to watch. Even if it's terrible, there's a huge chance that it's still going to be entertaining.

I liked this when it was first released and finally they have released it on DVD.

Considering its age the picture quality is brilliant, also whilst it has become more cheesy with age, it is entertaining cheese.

The effects were good for the time (I liked the head in the microwave but prefered the guy being chopped in half by the window).

Yea the film does look amazing on DVD and I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't cut. The head in the microwave effect hasn't stood the test of time very well, but I always remembered the film due to those two kills at the start.

*SPOILER*

I forgot how mean spirited the movie was, even the little kid gets it!
