Controversial Leashed Teen Yearbook Photo To Be Covered

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- School officials will use stickers to cover the yearbook photo of a high school senior wearing a collar and leash after the teen's mother complained.

Richards' mother, Jacqueline Nobles, said the picture reminded her of the poster for the 1970s miniseries Roots, which featured a manacled slave. Richards is black and Finley is white.

In response, school district officials ordered stickers that they will use to cover the photos in the remaining 460 copies. They want the 240 students who already received their books to return them for alteration.

The district's professional standards department is investigating to determine how the photos made it into print, district spokesman Nat Harrington said. Typically, the yearbook adviser or the principal must approve all content before the book is printed.

Richards disagrees with his mother's concerns and said he believes he and his peers at Boynton Beach High School are less conscious of race. Enrollment at the school is 63 percent black.

Richards also said complaints that the photo evokes slavery images are irrelevant in this case and said a number of black students were standing around when the photo was taken and nobody protested.

"I don't agree with him and that's perfectly fine," Nobles said.

This doesn't have to do alot with you're topic but I would say. They're is a lot more racist black and mexican people. But since I am white and because of our horrible past. We get the blame... like only one race and be racist :rolleyes:

it was within my lifetime (or shortly before) that blacks weren't allowed to go to school with whites.
It stands to reason that some people still might feel a little sensitive about this.

and if you think that racism isnt still with us you're crazy.

but - whites down have a monopoly on it ..
blacks are prejudiced, asians are extremely prejudiced (north and south)

My Grandfather had a strawberry plantation in Louisiana, with coloreds working the land, you can call them slaves if you like. Funny thing is they all were working there after the civil war.

From what I understand they were treated quite well.

ANd another thing I dont care what color you are white, black, brown, orange, yellow or red. If you are a fucking asshole then your a fucking asshole.

No matter the color of the skin you dont need a hand out, you need a hand up.

Of course the US gummit has taken all away from us and forced us to give our money to them so they can redistribute it to the "have nots".

I give a shitload to charity, some money, but mostly clothes, toys, and in the last 2 years I have donated 3 vehicles to different charities, Habitat for Humanity, Make a wish foundation, and the a charity that helps blind folks get seeing eye dogs.

I would give an assload more if my tax money didnt go to welfare for some asshead that had 14 kids cos' she didnt know how to use birth control or wanted to have more kids to get a bigger welfare check.
