ACH!...Poison Ivy...*Scratches*...

I was pulling weeds out of my flowerbed (huge flowerbed, all across the front of my house...so LOTS of weeds) about a week ago...I am HIGHLY allergic to Poison Ivy (I also happen to be allergic to weeds in general)...So, normally I will wear gardening gloves and long sleeves when I pull weeds, and I remove all of my clothing as soon as I get in the house after weeding...I also scrub my hands, arms and face with Dawn (because Poison Ivy is oily and grease cutters break it up) and hot water......Well, this has worked for me for so many years that I apparently became bold, or just forgot how badly the Poison Ivy gets to me, because I wore short sleeves, no gloves, didn't change my clothes (because I had so many things to do inside the house, and not much time), and I didn't scrub up until hours later.......

Anyway...Long story short......Normally when I get a rash from it, it itches like hell and usually goes away in about 4 days...BUT, this time It's still here after a week...On my arms (luckily, it's not anywhere else), and the itching is so bad that it has actually woken me up 3 times...I don't know if it's more virulent this time because of all the years that I have avoided it, perhaps my tolerance for it (which was already low) has become completely impaired, but I can't remember it EVER being THIS bad...

Any ideas what to do about it?...The conventional stuff (Calamine lotion) isn't working....And does anyone know what the MAXIMUM amount of time a Poison Ivy rash CAN last?...I don't think I can stand it much longer...

I heard from a few different people that if you put bleach in your bath water it helps.........I wouldn't do it, but hey, it may actually work

someone I know is in the same predicament and she got a shot and a prescription yesterday and today it's already a good bit better. so I suggest going to the doctor.

..my dad used to get that stuff real bad.he'd go to the doctor and get a shot of some "thick shit"(his words)and it would clear up after about a week or less.if you prefer burning to itching i'd go with bleach....but where gloves and you'll have to use somthing to break those juicy blisters,i use wet sand or fine grit sandpaper.good luck.:)

My dad almost died from the stuff when he was a kid. He was playying in the dirt, which just so happened to have a buttload of poison oak in it. he was in the hospital for a few weeks, with internal poison ivy in the thraot and alll that. That musta sucked.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys...I decided to just tough it out...It's pretty much all dried up, now...I HATE going to the doctor...

BTW...Did you know that you could give YOUR Poison Ivy to another person, even if they haven't touched the plant themselves?

Poor Dustin.......I know exactly how he feels right now...

Now, I have guilt....

But...I TOLD him not to touch me...:p

Hey sis, havent been here in a while and this is probably a little late but try this...

One cup of Nasturtium flowers and leaves, and tie them in a washcloth, put the cloth in a warm bath and wash the infected area with the cloth.

Nasturtium should be available at any occult or herb shop.:D
