Exactly in the order they were made, with New Nightmare a firm last - this was a collosal misfire which failed on every conceivable level, and cemented Craven's downfall from a once inventive horror auteur.

I, personally, thought the idea o the movie was good. Although the mask, that sucked. It looked like his skin was pealed off, not burnt. I hated that mask. His nose and chin weren't as sharp as in the other nightmares. And the new gloe was alright, but I the like the old glove much more. He looked cooler with the ripped bottom sweater that looked old, with the old clothes and scary look, not the new fresh clothes. The thrench coat was alright, a nice touch. But, again, the makeup, the mask, the glove, the fresh newish clothes... just don't fit well with me.

I should have explained my thoughts on the idea. I though the whole idea of the movie was great. The thought of Freddy being "real" and coming out of the films was a good idea, to me. But the whole bringing Heather/Nancy back after she was killed in Nightmare 3, I didn't like that. But it does fit in well. Dillon was a horrible actor though. The whole "never sleep again" and screaming thing he did, very bad acting.

EDIT: But you have to ammit, they gave Freddy some good one-liners in there.

"Ever play Skin the Cat?" "Pick a pet for the rugrat, bitch."

Freddy's revenge is by far the fucking WORST nightmare....followed by Freddy's dead : the comedy, and Nightmare 5.....to think the last one is even CLOSE to the trainwrecks of those three.....

I detect a Halloween 3-esque down on Freddy's Revenge, here - particularly strange given the downward spiral into throwaway comedy farce of the succeeding sequels.

Like the original, the second movie was dark... back in 1985, Freddy was still a menacing presence - not least because his actual time onscreen was wisely restrained, and the showstopping body horror and slapstick that was required to fill cinemas for the later films was not necessary.

It isn't a great movie by a long shot, but it is a nicely surprising sequel to the classic original with its grim overtones, doomed male protagonist, dubious gay elements and occasionally surreal special effects.

The idea of New Nightmare was not a bad one - bogey man comes out of dreams, then bogey man comes out of movie - but its execution was limp, with bland performances and an unremarkable script which wasted the premise with few decent shocks and more than a hint of the smug "knowingness" that Craven was about to unleash with his other "clever" horror movie, Scream.
