Earth Hour...

This is the second time/year this whole deal has been done, and apparently it's picking up globally so I just thought I'd check in to see if anyone has heard about
EARTH HOUR.
The short version is that we use too much power from non renewable sources and yknow, make too many emissions that fuck with the greenhouse effect, too much pollution, who doesn't know that already?
So, some people organised this to just see (at the moment) what kind of a chunk we could take out of this, if all appliances and power sources that contribute to our overall damage to the environment were turned off/not used for one hour.

Here's a BIT of info, there's lots available though:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/080328/21/16an0.html

Last year we got together with family, and took a pre-made meal to have a dinner at a local park (However, we DID use a car to get there, just one between 6 people, but still...we weren't 100% with it - first effort though).
It's really funny how lost conversation has become these days, it was great to just sit and talk without any interruption from the audio visual, chill out under the stars and walk a few laps after...but yknow...it's not like you need to even DO anything - kick it at home and have a talk or a boardgame by candlelight, reading, shit, even sleeping kills the hour pretty quick - the important thing is, try to reduce as much power consumption as you can for one hour - even try to unplug/switch off stuff that normally goes to standby.

Of course, people...leave your fridges and any life support devices on, eh?

This yeah myself and the girl are just gonna hang at home, talk, read a little and maybe hit up a game of monopoly, eating a pre-cooked meal.

Assuming you guys haven't got plans to do this already, or haven't heard of it, well, it's not as though you can't be in on it as well, maybe you're not in the specific area of study at the moment, but you will contribute to your world in a positive way that won't take much effort at all.

We do ours on SAT 29th March, 8PM, which is around 3 and a half hours after the time I post this...You're welcome to join.

Anyways folks, thanks for your attention.

**BUMP**
Because I feel like I should.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_hour

Just an hour and a half to go now...(for here anyways)
Whatever your equivalent may be to the following...

SATURDAY MARCH 29TH, 8PM (GMT +10:00)

...I encourage as many people as possible to get behind this - This is simple, and it's something YOU can do.

- B.

Well, got pretty into the reading by candlelight thing in the end...and we personally did an "Earth Hour-and-twenty-four minutes" at our place.
When news becomes available on the effects of our effort Sydney/Aus-wide, I'll update.

I feel good about it, because it shows how much you can change by...well, doing pretty much nothing.

Here's hoping some of you folks join in at your respective MARCH 28th 8PM'S.

I can't wait for the hour to get here. I have an extensive reading list that continues to grow. I've been putting off reading for a long time, forgoing crafts and knitting instead. So I'll be chipping away at The Wizards first Rule by Terry Goodkind.

I just finished up too. I ate fondu, did a crossword and turned the Sears catalogue model into a goth. Not at all what I planned.
