Lou Reed's "The Raven"
Lou Reed's rock opera based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. I liked it a lot even though the music's a bit slower in spots than my usual taste. I saw a live performance of it a few years ago at Brooklyn's Academy of Music. It was performed by Germans and had really austere sets by Robert Wilson. Altogether very nicely done! I finally got the CD which is all the songs and poems performed by Lou and others like Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Steve Buscemi and more.
Has anyone heard this? I recommend it. Especially to fans of Lou or Poe. |

Actually for 'the raven' they just did a straight dramatic reading but it has a lot of songs based on some stories and general themes covered by Poe.Some rocking some more mellow and mournful, but they struck me as sincere.
