It was fun while it lasted, but extremely repetitive. The flashlight thing was a serious pain in the ass.

Doom3 was scary as hell, i really did like it. I agree that HL2 was a better game, but if you want a fantastic game that is scary as hell and much better than doom 3, check out F.E.A.R.

I didn't play it too much at first, while my friends were all excited about Doom 3 I was enjoying Far Cry (a better game IMO). When I was done with Far Cry I gave Doom 3 a go and it's a fun, blow the hell out of everything shooter. I was happy with the purchase.
