Quiet Onsluaght of Hideshi Hino Horror

Hideshi Hino is going to have more horror manga published in English than anyone. Yet, his books are not on the shelves, and he apparently just has a "cult following". Cocoro has licensed over 100 of his works, and has published five so far with four more to go this year.

Has anyone seen his books in the stores or ads about him anywhere?

Maybe he's just too strange or gross for Western taste. In the Red Snake, he shows a young woman massaging the pus out of a growth on her Grandfather's face until it bursts. I'm glad Hino works in b&w. Other grotesque scenes include licking the blood from the necks of decapitated hens, vampire snakes, and the stomach bursting "birth" of a hideous "baby." Edgy stuff.

His two "Guinea Pig" films stirred up quite a controversy in the late 80's. One was a semimal "snuff" movie so real, that it made an American SF writer lead a crusade against it!

I hope that his manga will give horror culture a new shiver.

Meh. He sounds to be controversial for the sake of it. Guinea pig was just a showcase for some cool fx but went on for way too long for what it was.

I don't get into comic books in any shape or form. Never have. If wanted to be entertained by something with pictures, I watch a movie. If I sit and read, it's because I want to imagine the scenes that the author describes with words. Not drawn out for me. But, that's just me.

Ahhh, Spoken like a true english teacher :)

One thing in defense of comics, if a kidf reads comics and nothing else, at least he is reading and not watching tv.

Stingy, did i ever mention that all but one of english teacher hated me? I'm too opinionated. :D

I guess it doesnt matter now, though. I graduated 10 years ago, and the only english teacher I know i consider a freind (I'll give you a hint, he is a crayfish with a heart of gold ;))

LoL! Well, I can understand the interest in comics for the artwork ... but that's not really my kind of art. Who is this teacher friend of yours that is a crayfish??? He doesn't happen to have penis envy, does he?

I like your new avatar, by the way. If I can be honest, the Brad Pitt one was quite annoying. ;)
