Chrono's Horror Movie Marathon Week 2: Werewolves (There Wolves!)

Helllooooo Ghouls and Boys!

While I'm not quite finished with Frankenstein Week, I thought that it would be a good time to post the upcoming schedule for

Horror Marathon Week 2: Werewolves (There Wolves!)

This should be an interesting week. On a cursory Google search of werewolf movies, it appears as though I haven't seen very many, and the ones that I haven't seen I either have the perception that they're not worth seeing OR they are generally ill-received.

I'm excited for my own personal lineup and I can't wait to hear about the other movies that folks may watch.

Viewing Schedule
  • Sunday, September 21st, 5:00 p.m. EST: The Wolf Man (1941)
  • Tuesday, September 23rd, 8:00 p.m. EST: An American Werewolf in London (1981)
  • Thursday, September 25th, 8:00 p.m. EST: Ginger Snaps (2000)

I shifted around my viewing plans a bit for this one - Watching The Wolf Man was an obvious choice (for me, thinking about the Universal Frankenstein immediately brings me to The Wolf Man) - What will be interesting, too, is that, along with Frankenstein, I haven't seen it in at least 20 years, so it'll be like watching it for the first time.

As for An American Werewolf in London, well, I had seen pieces of it a while ago and wrote it off. However, I understand that it is actually quite the iconic film so, like it or not, I should probably have it under my belt. I consider this a first viewing for me (and part of what I want to do with this marathon is make myself watch movies I've never seen).

Finally, there's Ginger Snaps. I put it on my list, then removed it, swapped in Dog Soldiers, and then swapped them again. I wanted to put in a modern werewolf movie and I was having a hard time choosing between the two (I like them both very much and I originally swapped out Ginger Snaps only because I've seen it so many times). I think I am going to stick with Ginger Snaps for the shared viewing on Thursday (hopefully this will push folks to watch it who haven't seen it before!) and I'll strive to stick Dog Soldiers in there as well - It's been a while since I've seen Doctor # Nine anyway.

I moved the Sunday night viewing an hour earlier so hopefully that'll be easier for folks in the UK.

I will be using the website meetings.io to organize a private chat room (that also supports video chat). I will share out the link prior to each screening...

CAN'T MAKE IT?

No worries! Join in the conversation here!

WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING ELSE?

Watch/post about other Werewolf-themed movies through the week - Let's expand the discussion!

Other movies I am considering: Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004), Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (2004), Silver Bullet (1985)

I just want to reccomend the film The Howling if you have never seen it. It is one of my favorite werewolf movies, it's very captivating and I love all the werewolf movie references. The ending is also quite...unique. I might have to watch it again next week.

Yes! Love that one, too! And own it!

Hrm. Ok. Full disclosure. I tried watching it a couple of years ago and was not a huge fan. I'm not even sure if I made it to the end. That movie has a LOT of love around here but it just didn't work for me. I don't think it aged very well.

I know. I am going to watch it. Definitely. Just not sure if it's Thursday or not.

You should have a Feline-themed week.

Cat People (1942 & 1982)
Night of a Thousand Cats (1972)
Pet Samatary (1989)
The Black Cat (1981)
Sleepwalkers (1992)
Cat's Eye (1985)
Prey (2007)
The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)
Burning Bright (2010)

...

Alien (1979)
