Quarantine duo's next - John Kilborn's Afraid

John and Drew Dowdle, the brothers behind horror remake Quarantine, are staying with gory scares for their next movie: an adaptation of John Kilborn’s novel, Afraid.

The book revolves around a group of highly-trained, government-sponsored torture specialists who are erroneously sent to a sleepy American town to carry out a mission. When they start running amok, laying waste to the town’s frightened residents, the government sends in Navy SEALs, marines, Green Berets and Special Forces teams to stop them… but it may not be enough.

The debut novel by Kilborn – actually a pen name for J.A. Konrath – has been hailed as “the best psychological horror novel to come along since Silence Of The Lambs” and “a bungee jump into pure terror”, so we’re actually quite intrigued and excited by this one. From the sound of it, it more than lives up to the title.

The Dowdles did a good job on Quarantine – John Erick directed, Drew wrote - although they were hampered somewhat by the fact that it was virtually a shot-for-shot remake of the superior Spanish horror film, Rec. Hopefully, with Afraid, and now that they’re a full-on directing team, they’ll get a chance to show what they can really do.

Larry Malkin and Chad Thumann are writing the script.
