Your Life Aquatic?

As some of you know, I'm a scuba diver, and love most things to do with sea life. I don't know what it is that interests me, but there's something about looking at the way things work under the sea that's so intriguing.

Anyway, what I want to know is what kind of experiences you guys have had with sea life. Have you been out on a day boat to look at whales? Have you done a small scuba course on a holiday or are you an experienced regular diver? Do you do snorkling? Do you live near the sea? Have you ever witnessed something spectacular like a Great White feeding or Whales Sky hopping, or a huge Ray swimming past you whilst snorkling? ANYTHING! Anything at all.

This was me last August in Tenerife, where I had quite a close encounter with a Sea Turtle. Any divers will understand the reference to a buddy check.

I won't post any more pictures (at least not yet), otherwise the thread will only be about me and my experiences, and that isn't what it's about. I want to hear about you and your encounters with sea life!

P.S. Owning a fish tank, tropical or otherwise doesn't count. :p

Holy smokes, that was pretty great.

I've never been scuba diving or snorkeling, although I'd love to do either/both.

Not much. I got to a beach in North Carolina every summer and have had a couple of in-water run-ins with sharks. Scary, but exhilerating. Marine life fascinates me as well.

Great video, Ferret!

I've only ever done some snorkeling (which I love) when on vacation in the Caribbean and Florida Keys. In the keys I ran into some fish (don't remember the name but it was long (at least six feet) and silver was a little indimitating being that close to fish that is bigger than you in their turf. Barracuda on the other hand are scary as they have these sharp, menacing teeth sticking out, so I got out there.

I'm sure you see a lot more when you go scuba diving, but personally, I'd don't think I could do scuba. I'd be way too paranoid that I'd drown if I go too far deep. Maybe you just get used to it though.

Here's a few pictures when we went snorkeling on our honeymoon last year. We are going on another cruise in january, so we'll be doing more snorkeling then!

Me at Stingray City in Cayman Is.:

Here's another of me swimming towards the Barrier Reef in Cayman Is.:

More of the Barrier Reef:

From that last one you can see there's not much space between you and the reef. You had to careful because the current would brush you right against the coral. Luckily, it wasn't real sharp. That happened to me another time and I got real scratched up.

I have an interduction to diving class booked - I just have to confirm the date.

I'm very nervous about it - I was trying to do some snorkling in Greece and I found it so hard to convince my body to breath when my face was underwater. It freaked me out a lot.

As a kid I used to snorkle all the time too.
