Shooting a Stephen King Short Film, Need HELP!
Since the 1970s, best-selling author Stephen King has allowed select student film makers to adapt his short stories under a program called “The Dollar Baby Deal”. Under the dollar baby deal, young film makers are allowed to create non-profit, non-commercial adaptations of Mr. King’s stories.
Kansas native Robert Kreh recently received such permission to adapt “Cain Rose Up” from King’s short story anthology “Skeleton Crew.” The story tells the disturbing tale of a mentally unbalanced young college student who goes on a shooting spree, massacring several classmates. The story shows an eerie prescience being originally published in 1985, long before the tragedies at Columbine and Virginia Tech. Since the project is non-profit, Mr. Kreh will be unable to seek traditional investment. Instead he will fund a majority of the film with donations from friends and fans. This will allow those who donate an opportunity to be involved in the project, and potentially see their names on the big screen at film festivals across the country. With such a famous authors work, and such controversial and timely subject matter, the film is certain to raise some eyebrows. Mr. Kreh recently finished the script, and has begun fundraising. The film is expected to begin principle photography in late 2009, in the Tampa, FL area. I have a couple of legit questions for you. How long is the screenplay? What's your budget? How many shooting days do you require? How much have you raised so far? Do you have a cast/crew assembled? Do you have a start date? Best of luck with your film.
