Old School Nick and others..

Okay so i was on youtube and i saw all these videos talking about the back in the day nickolodeon shows and i thought wow todays tv for kids SUCK! Watching the Rugrats, Rockos Modern Life, Hey Arnold, And Angry Beavers taught me lifes little lessons like you shouldnt walk around with your diaper off because it gets drafty. Snow falls because a cloud farts it out, If a guy or girl likes you they pick on you and call you football head, and not to mention old school horror movies are the best.

My Question and the point of this thread is when you were growing up what show on nick or any other networks did you watch?

Living in Australia, where cable tv only really arrived when I was around 13-14 (back in 94-95) as I recall, I never watched a specific network...we just had like free to air tv prior that.

The cartoons I watched were a little more oldskool.
He-Man, M.A.S.K, The smurfs, inspector gadget, the original x-men and 90's spider-man, She-Ra, Voltron, transformers Gen 1, trapdoor, the dreamstone...etc...I honestly don't think cartoons have ever been as good as those.

Caught some rugrats and invader zim in later days though, and also ren and stimpy in my early teens...they were cool....though I have noticed NICK toons have gone to shit, most of them trying to be ren and stimpy but falling short.
Don't even get me started on what they show YOUNGER kids these days.

Haha i know. I get up once in a blue moon on the weekdays really early and turn on some of the kids channels to see whats on and it sucks. Its like watching school programs not cartoons anymore.

Spongebob tries to act like ren and stimpy and at first i thought it was pretty damn good but now it sucks big time.

Oh yes. Nickelodeon from the years 1988-1997 was like a third parent to me.

I've always said that the Golden Age of Nick ended with CatDog.
And Hey Arnold! was the last truly great show that Nick had.

Nick was supposed to put out all of their old shows on DVD a few years ago. They started to; they put out the first season of Clarissa Explains It All, the first season of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and the first and second seasons of Pete and Pete. They stopped after these due to corporate B.S. and the like.

I also know that Joe Murray (creator of Rocko's Modern Life) has been actively trying over the past few years to acquire the rights to his show so he can put out an extras-loaded complete uncut Rocko's Modern Life DVD set (which would allow me to die a happy man).

At any rate, what about Nick Arcade? Wild and Crazy Kids? Legends of the Hidden Temple? Welcome Freshmen (Nickelodeon's Saved by the Bell)? Guts (I had such a crush on Mo)? What Would You Do? etc.

Back in the day, I used to look forward to watching "the wonder years".
...the dino related stuff, Dinosaucers, dino-riders, and denver the last dinosaur.
What about back when TMNT was first out?
That first series was the SHIT!!!!!
THE SHIT!
I loved that show.

I just bought "defenders of the earth" on dvd too...that was pretty good if anyone knows what it is at all.

One day I'll have a whole series of alla these.

Its called getting older!!

When I was growing up my folks would always talk about watching utter shit like Bill & Ben the Flowerpot Men, Muffin the Mule, The Clangers and Magic Roundabout when they were kids.

Compare that to what I watched like TMNT, Defenders of the Earth, He-Man, Dungeons and Dragons, Grange Hill et al and they used to say exactly what you're saying. That my fav kids shows were rubbish and theirs taught them lessons and meant something.

Its purely a generational thing, you know your getting older when you start saying 'back in my day' and actually meaning it!!
