Does this look legit?

I got an email this morning from someone named Matt McElreath, asking if I wanted to contribute artwork a site called Suspense Magazine. http://www.suspensemagazine.com/

It looks legit and there is a phone number and everything but I am very wary about internet scams. He said they are trying to get their magazine to print so they need cover art etc. etc. I take it they got my e-mail from my deviantArt profile, because I rarely use my g-mail address for things.

What do you guys think? Does it look legit, or is there a possibility this is a scam of some kind. I don't want to end up posting my art on this site, only to find out that gives them the copyright or something.

Any advice is great. Thanks so much.

I know of the guy they chose to be author of the year and interviewed, so it seems likely that the mag is also legit. It looks like a real submissions page. If you'd like me to, I could do some more legwork, but my instincts say yes. Especially if you have contributed artwork to magazines or sites before, post regularly on forums that this Suspense magazine guy posts on and whatnot. He has nothing to gain but a free illustration and you have nothing to lose but one piece of artwork and something to gain from it all.

Thanks, that was very well put. I'll look into it a bit more but I'm not sure what I have to offer when it comes to the theme of suspense.

Take a dated photo of your work, sign it, and have it at least documented by a registered J.O.P if you can't afford an official copyright.
Do this prior to submission, or suffer as a fool.
