I Saw Neil Young Last Night

Wow ... this guy is how old ?

and he comes out guns blazing like a man with an agenda.
Neil's mission : to rock the shit out of the arena.

i was prepared for a quiet set of lesser known acoustics - but instead Neil rocked had for 2 hours straight - blowing the roof off of the sold out stadium.

people were singing along so loud to a couple of the tunes that you could barely hear the band ... i'd never seen that before.

if you get a chance - see this show ... colour me impressed.

i'm not sure - it was his beautiful wife, another younger looking guy, an old guy playing steel guitar, another fairly old guy playing base, and a middle aged drummer - but i couldnt hear any names.

another guy came out for the banjo work in 'old man'

The opening band was Wilco and they were great too ...

All i can say is that Neil looked like an old man... until he started rocking with that guitar ... he played like a punk ...(i mean that in the best sense of the word) he slowed down for a few tunes appropriately ... but for the most part he was really rocking

I knew Urge would be right at home in that show. :)

But seriously, its really cool to hear this. Bet you and wifey had a blast watching him perform at the peak of his energy.

Did you go backstage and get a couple autographs and some pics? That would have made a great entry in the pic album at home.

I downloaded a video of him from Farm Aid this year......played the shit out of about six songs...sounds like the same band backing him....they are very good.

He's 63 and can rock as well as anybody half his age. I saw Ted Nugent this past summer [ yeah....he's kind of an asshole..but he rocks ] , He's 60 and he played 2 full hours nonstop....and not a ballad in the set.

ha - not a chance ... i'd have to be his immediate family to get that honor.

although i do have a book signed by his late father who wrote many novels for kids. (Scott Young)

its amazing how iconic this guy is ... i'm reading both David Crosby and Warren Zevons biographies and he figures in both (obviously for crosby - but i was supprised at the zevon connection)

he is one of those artists that is held in higher regard by the musician community than his fans ... and his fanbase is plenty big.

I wonder what keeps these guys ticking...the beer?

Mark would have loved a souvenir...oh well. Thought Neil might let some of the fans sneak in for at least a couple of memorable autographs, but he's still same ole' same ole'.
