Which dracula movies you like?

To be fair, I like the oldies with Cristopher Lee.

Because the new dracula movies, kind of lost their melo-dramatic sense. to much special effects and less romantic horror.
In modern movies, dracula is just a butcher, in the oldies, he was a truly a "dracula".


So, how about you guys?

I'll have to admit to a fondness for Lee.

I love Lugosi- but strangely there are other roles I like him in far more than the one that made his career. It probably has a lot to do with the fact I grew up watching Lee's Dracula in the theatre.

My first preference is also for Christopher Lee's Dracula.

Lugosi was great, but to me, Lee epitomised Bram Stoker's Dracula better than Lugosi.

Lee could be suave, but there was no doubt that there was an animalistic creature always lurking just below the surface. He was a savage beast in humanoid guise.

I also liked Louis Jordan's portrayal of Dracula in the BBC's Count Dracula. Production values were clearly 70's BBC, but the story was well-told and it was very faithful to the novel.

Frank Langella's portrayal was also good, but I can't get my head around a Dracula named "Frank" :D

Weirdly enough Lugosi only played Dracula twice and one of those times was in an Abbot and Costello comedy..

You have to love Lugosi even though he chews the scenary in everything he does. The Lee films are amazing - I have a real fondness for TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA as well as his most famous ones.

I also loved the Spanish version of Dracula not so much for Carlos Villarias (as Dracula) but a lot of way the scenes were done in it (especialy the ship). Lugosi and Fryre were far better than their spanish counterparts..

It is said that the spanish version of the original Dracula was better than the Lugosi version. I have it but haven't gotten around to checking it out yet(the spanish version).

I heard Christopher Lee was excellent but I've never seen any of those films.

Which ones are the good ones to watch?

Avoid Satanic Rites and AD 1972. The rest of Chris Lee's Dracula movies are very entertaining.
Not Chris Lee, but I would strongly recommend Brides of Dracula because it is the second best Hammer Dracula movie after Horror.

Ah yes...and for my money, "Taste the Blood of Dracula" is not very good either. Although there are some neat things in it, the movie is a dull construction and I didn't find it thrilling. (It looks pretty good...all the Lee Dracula movies look fairly decent...if only looks made a movie!)

The best Lee Dracula flicks, IMO, were Horror of Dracula, Dracula: Prince of Darkness and Dracula has Risen from the Grave.

I don't remember too much of "Scars of Dracula" but as I recall there were some good moments and a nasty, evil sense of atmosphere.

Horror of Dracula and Taste are two of my favorites.

I also can watch the original any day of the week.

I know this isn't a popular opinion but I loved Oldman's Dracula in the 92 (?) version. Didn't care much for the rest of the cast, but he carried the movie with ease.
