11 - Remembrance Day

Well, it's that time of year again. The time we remember and honor those who fought so valiantly against our enemies to protect our countries. A day when we show our respect to those dead, those living, those who fought, those who are fighting. Remembrance Day.

We celebrate this day as it is the anniversary of the ending of the First World War, having ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. A day in which countries all over the world remember, pay respect to and thank our soldiers, who risked and in many cases gave there lives to give us a better future.

We wear poppies on this day as a sign of our respect and gratitude. They are a sign of hope and new beginning, as they were the only thing to grow on some of the worst battle fields in World War I, also a cruel reminder for the soldiers of the blood being spilled. People lay down Poppy wreaths, once again as a sign of our thanks.

A two minute silence is another tradition, just to think about what our men and women and people went through in all the times of fighting. Not just World Wars, but all wars. The Falklands, Vietnam, the war in the middle east and all of the others which have claimed so many lives. I hope everybody did the two minute silence, and if you didn't, please do. Stop what you're doing and simply stand, sit or lay, not watching television at the same time, not tapping at the keyboard, but thinking. Thinking of our people who fight to keep us safe. Whether you agree with war or not, it's happened, and those who fought in it did it out of bravery, and they deserve respect.

Thank you, all of our soldiers. Happy Remembrance Day.

Dustin and I are watching Deathwatch right now

Plot summary for
Deathwatch (2002) -IMDB

In 1917, on the Western front, a group of survivors of the British Company Y reach the most forward German trench in a foggy night. They capture a German soldier that advises that evil is in the trench, forcing the soldiers to kill each other, and asks them to leave the place. Only the private Charlie Shakespeare listens and helps the prisoner, while a supernatural force scares and makes the soldiers insane.

In the middle of World War I, nine British soldiers caught behind enemy lines seek refuge in a complex network of German trenches. What they soon discover is that they aren't alone...and it isn't a German soldier that's hunting them down.

In the brutal trench fighting of the First World War, a British Infantry Company is separated from their regiment after a fierce battle. Attempting to return to their lines, the British soldiers discover what appears to be a bombed out German trench, abandoned except for a few dazed German soldiers. After killing most of the Germans, and taking one prisoner, the British company fortifies to hold the trench until reinforcements can arrive. Soon, however, strange things being to happen as a sense of evil descends on the trench.

It's great so far...And we are remembering our soldiers, too :)
