Beyond the Dunwich Horror

Hi all,

I just wanted to stop by and tell you all about this really awesome indie movie that just came out on DVD. If you're an H.P. Lovecraft fan you'll (hopefully) be a big fan of the film... It's not a remake of that awful 1970s version - it's a "modern version of an ancient evil" using Lovecraft's story as the backdrop for all the action in the film starring Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, I Drink Your Blood) and Jeff Dylan Graham (Pop Skull, Homesick), along with all of us lesser-known indie horror actors....

Here are what some critics are saying:

"An absolute treat for horror fans!" -- Cinema-Suicide

"I can say without reservation that watching Beyond The Dunwich Horror is like watching a Lovecraft adaptation by Dario Argento, with Mario Bava on cinematography and Lucio Fulci on special effects" -- lordshaper of kryptographik

"Old school horror film that’s frightening and surreal to its shocking end." -- filmarcade

Plus there's lots of sex and gore! :)

So, if you get a chance, please check it out the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2vcKFx0djY

And if you like what you see, you can get a copy of it here: http://www.scorpiofilmreleasing.net/movie5.html

And of course, I have to show you all the awesome poster which was done by Stephen Romano (creator of Shock Festival):

Lots of sex & gore- sounds like you're raping Lovecraft.

Grindhouse Lovecraft can work. Look at Suspiria and Stuart Gordon's Dagon. Lovecraft might be about atmosphere, but the themes of existential terror and fear of powerful cosmic entities can still work with gore and sex thrown in. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked Italian lowbudgeter the Shunned House a lot and it didn't skimp on either.

Lovecraft rarely even had a female in his works. Sexuality wasn't something he was concerned with.
