Why do hollywood trailers suck ass?

Firstly, most movies suck to begin with. In sch a case, i can understand why the trailer would blow. But even the good movies have the same god awful format for a trailer. Rearranging clips from the first 45 minutes of the film and adding an epic sound track on top is not the only way to put a trailer together. It seems that Holly wood just doesn't understand this simple fact. Perfect example...

..and this movie is actaully good. Anyone see this it yet? it comes out tomorrow. But why with the shitty trailer? Show me a trailer that doesnt follow this exact scheme. I would love to see it.

I think more than half of the current trailers are better than their movies. Go rent a 42nd Street trailer compilation if you're that upset. You want to be really upset, read reviews of older films from today's "professional" critics.

"In its day, The Thing was considered a horror movie. By today's standards, the effects aren't very scary at all. Actually they're kind of goofy, but back in '82 they didn't have the CGI that fills our theaters these days. Even though it's not exactly scary, it's still one damned good piece of science fiction. I was only able to guess who had been infected by the creature once during the whole movie (The first time I saw it, anyway), and I was constantly left guessing. The cast, spearheaded by Kurt Russell, is most admirable. As their numbers dwindle, the characters become more and more edgy and paranoid, and the actors never drop the ball. The characters aren't the most fleshed-out bunch I've ever seen, but when you've got 12 guys all thinking that the others are going to turn into some tentacled monster and eat them, that doesn't leave a whole lot of room for explication of backgrounds.

When you combine John Carpenter's direction with some special effects that were groundbreaking for their time, mix it up with a capable cast and some rather believable sets, you get a classic science fiction flick. Even more so than the 50's original version. But then again I'm never overly fond of movies that were made so long before I was born, so take that as you will."

So while he does like the movie he thinks CGI would be better and doesn't really like classic films. Cool.

Then how else would you make a trailer? They're suppose to be clips from the movie that doesn't give away the ending and entices you to go. You through in music so you don't have a bunch a dialogue that doesn't make sense since you have to cut the scenes.

My problem is just the opposite. I often think a trailer is great only to be disappointed when I see the movie.

the bishops wife trailer is awesome!
they need more ideas like that
transformers had a good trailer. They didnt give away any scenes from the movie, but were able to get the audience pumped for the film.

The trailer had more plot, character developement, and overall story than the entire movie. It was also shorter and therefore far superior to the 2 hours of mindless special effects and product placement that was the massive pile of crap that was the transformers movie. Michael Bay should die. That would be "Awesome" to quote the idiot himself.
