Stan Winston's "Speed Demon"

A project that the late legendary creature creator Stan Winston was working on as a producer has emerged from development hell, with Paradox Entertainment – one of the companies behind the new Conan film – picking up Speed Demon.

Peter Winther, who worked on the project with Winston, is still in the director’s chair for the film, which was originally touted at the 2008 American Film Market, as reported back then by Shock ‘Till You Drop, along with images of the monster planned for the film.

How does that fit in? Variety’s story includes the current plot, which finds a mob enforcer tracking a small-time criminal and the loot he stole from the gangsters. But when he gets close to the man on a lonely desert highway, he discovers that they have something more to worry about – a nasty creature hunting them both.

Patrick Tatopoulos has also worked on designs for the film, which should start shooting this year.
