I've never seen this before

i know it isnt uncommon - but in my 47 years i've never seen hail any bigger than the size of a small bb ... and it always melted immediately.


last night i got home to find little pockets of ice here and there - in little piles like easter eggs.

one of the 3 chairs in front of the house had what looked like a bag of ice dumped on it - nothing in the other 2 chairs ..weird.

and the hail was big ! i'm glad i only saw the after affects - those little bastards would hurt !

We havent had hail recently but in the winter we once had hail the size of golf balls. I'm not even exaggerating. We're right by the lake though, so it's not really uncommon to have hail that big. I just remember opening the front door and picking a piece up off the fronth porch and being scared it was some sort of Day After Tomorrow scenario. Dented cars and everything.

We don't get hail here in Oregon, but growing up in the mid-west we had plenty of it, and plenty big. The hail in those pix would be typical Nebraska hail.

yeh, we only get tiny hail. But it when it comes down fast and pretty much whips you it stings like a bitch.

I have mostly seen the smaller hail.

But earlier this year in Sydney, we had a freakish hailstorm with really large hail. Enough to cause serious damage to suburbs - I mean there were some suburbs where many houses had roofs destroyed, cars seriously damaged, etc. Luckily it didn't hit where I live.

But houses were being repaired for months afterwards.

I remember the hail in Sydney back in 1999, It destroyed a lot of property.

I was working on the restoration clean out of the south Sydney council buildings, everything had to be destroyed because of the asbestos.

Fucked up job, there were heaps of days where we got paid for sitting around because the asbestos levels were to high for us to go inside.

Then it was fun trashing all the records, just walking around anonymous in our protective gear acting like crazys...

we've had them the size of golfballs around here before, but then again we also get tornadoes here from time to time. And we've even had a couple of (small(very small infact)) earthquakes. But of course we get weird weather in this area because we have 3 intersecting fault lines, or some kind of line, it has to do with the magnetic fields around this area. But it effects our weather.
