the high tension appreciation thread

i just watched this movie last weekend and really loved. it's almost the perfect slasher. i don't usually go for slashers cause they are so samey but when a good one comes along i love it. the twist was nice, the violence was argentoian and the mood was quite TCM. this movie just grabs you from minute one and beats the shit out of you. this is up there with wolf creek and TCM as one of the great slashers. the memories of the circular saw scene will live with me and bring joy for many years to come. in a word, RAW. so, i'd be interested to hear from the others, if any, who value this movie as highly as i. also, as this and irreversible are so good, can some of the buffs recommend some other good french made horrors? i've seen les yeux sans visage. thanks:)

I love "High Tension."

The Brotherhood of the Wolf,The Crimson Rivers and The Living Dead Girl are pretty good.

I loved High Tension also. A few people here don't like it and hated the twist at the end but I loved it. I had never heard of it a friend reccomended it. At first I thought UGH what a B movie but then I was pleasantly surprised with the kill scenes and wondering WTF was going on. Even after the twist I was still like WTF. And on the edge of my seat. I didn't relate it to TCM much and I didn't really like Wolf Creek t it is definately ifar better than wolf Creek and in my top fav!

I too just loved this movie. I thought it was very creative, scary, and just well done. I also thought the lead actress was very good. You can buy this as a Previously Viewed DVD from Netflix now for $5.99 which is such a great price.

This director also did the Hills Have Eyes remake which I thought was very well done as well.

Lol this is certainly a film that draws mixed opinions. May be a good candidate for V's new thread....

I enjoyed the atmosphere and tension that was created and maintained for most of the film. Also, most of the effects were good (although the decapitation on the staircase seemed very unrealistic). Also, I found the cinematography interesting and supportive of the atmosphere trying to be created.

Shame about the plot holes & illogical (?impossible) sequence of events....
