Japanese/American Horror

Question for you guys. Ive never really watched a japanese horror movie because I never got into reading subtitles. It seems like it would kind of ruin the movie having to constantly read subtitles. From what I have heard Japanese horror is outstanding and actually freaky. One example would be Pulse. That movie sucked ass but from what I heard the japanese version is outstanding. Is this true? If so, what are some good Foreign horror that I could start off with?

Pulse was alright. some parts had me scared shitless, other than that it was kinda lame. Subtitles never really bothered me. i thought they would, but when you watch you usually dont even notice. as for a good foriegn film........two words: Riki Oh.

Versus is a good starting point because like Riki Oh it's not too story based. R-Point is amazing, and of course anything Miike is so messed up it doesn't matter if you're reading it or listening to it.

The original Pulse really isnt anything special. Some really good ideas, but IMO they werent executed well at all.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion guys. I recently downloaded One Missed Call off a torrent but it didn't have subtitles nor was it dubbed so I think I might just have to rent that foreign films so I can at least have subtitles. Ill head over to Blockbuster in an hour.

i've watched ju on and oldboy recently and they're unbelievable. don't worry about reading subtitles, you'll totally forget about it after ten minutes. i was so impressed by these two i started stock piling the asian horrors. these are the ones i own and haven't watched- a tale of two sisters, ichi the killer, kairo, ghost and audition. recommend a few more please guys. paticularly the ghost story style movies
