Remember that movie Body Parts...
with Jeff Fahey...where he, and a few others, are given limb transplants from a convicted serial killer?
Ky. Surgeons Complete Hand Transplant By BRETT BARROUQUERE (Associated Press Writer) From Associated Press November 30, 2006 12:00 PM EST LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A Michigan man who lost his right hand in a work-related accident 30 years ago became the third successful hand transplant recipient in the United States, doctors said Thursday. David F. Savage, 54, of Bay City, Mich., was doing well the day after having the surgery at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Doctors said the transplant for Savage presented unusual challenges because of the length of time between when he lost his hand and the surgery. The blood vessels leading to Savage's hand had shrunk because they were not in use, said Dr. Warren Breidenbach, the lead surgeon. "It's like closing down your house for 32 years, then deciding to go back in and take a shower. You turn it on, it sputters a little bit, then it works," Breidenbach said. What it doesn't say is where the hand came from? I think it came from the guy we've all heard so much about who is now sporting a HOOK!!!

There have been three full hand transplants that I know of...all successful so far...even saw this show about the bionic hand the other night...pretty cool, completly robotic hand, only did four functions...controlled by nerve signals from brain to stump...

Whatever happened to Eric Red? Amazing writer/director.
If it could be done and I could afford it I'd do it. Especially if it was my hands because not being able to play bass would suck. Lots of ethical shit to take into account. Death Row organ farming? Some people are guilty some have "offences" and fit the quota.... that was what Body Parts was about to me. |

Not sure about that one, the three I read about were all in the US...I'm sure if gangreen set in then no doubt have to remove it.

It would make me stop biting my nails at least :D I don't think I could take body parts from death row inmates, its pretty wrong to me and would set a fucked up precident. But maybe I'd think differently if I lost a limb. |

Yea, I think I'd be up for trying about anything if I lost a limb, especially a leg or my tennis arm/hand.
