Gruesome end to pals’ coke party

Neighbors in a normally quiet North Attleboro neighborhood awoke to blood-curdling screams after a woman was stabbed and her boyfriend murdered, the result of a cocaine-fueled fight between friends, police say.

Corey J. Hood, 27, was arraigned yesterday for knifing to death Michael Liss, 25, after a nose-candy binge at Liss’ Johnson Street home. Liss’ girlfriend, Terra Marvitz, 20, was slashed in the face and chest. She escaped the house barefoot and bloodied and began pounding on neighbors’ doors, her cries for help piercing the tranquil night.

“It was blood-curdling,” said Kim Olson, who awoke at 2 a.m. to screams and doorbell ringing and the bleeding Marvitz on her porch. “She was just saying, ‘Help me. Help me. I’ve been attacked. Michael’s been attacked.’ ”

Twelve hours later, a bloody handprint was still on the Olson’s door and Marvitz was recovering at a nearby hospital.

Liss, a lover of pit bulls and fast cars, grew up in the home, which was known for its frequent visitors and noise, neighbors said. In December, he was arrested after allegedly shoving a friend of Marvitz’ through one of the house’s glass doors. Last year, he was arrested after a road-rage incident.

But this time, police say, it was Hood who got violent.

Soon after Hood came over to Liss’ place on Tuesday night the pair started doing cocaine in the basement, Marvitz later told police. An argument ensued and Hood stabbed Liss with a large knife - first in the basement and then in the kitchen - according to a police report. He later knifed Marvitz, according to a police report, and then sped off in Liss’ pickup truck. He was arrested yesterday in Norton.

Bristol County Assistant District Attorney Ray Veary said police found Liss on the kitchen floor with a knife sticking out of his chest. Blood had seeped through the floor and into the basement, according to a report.

Hood was arraigned in Attleboro District Court on charges of murder, armed assault, kidnapping and larceny of a motor vehicle. A judge ordered him held without bail and set a date for a bail hearing after he appeared droopy-eyed, unable to walk and incoherent.

“It’s clear he was using drugs or alcohol,” said his attorney, Robert George. “He’s in pretty bad shape.”

Hood, who was convicted in 1999 of indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or older, is a Level 3 sex offender.

But his mom, Robin Hood, claimed that was all in the past.

She said Liss and Hood were friends and she’s shocked by the charges against her son. Hood has a 3-year-old daughter and is a roofer, his mom said.

“I’ve never seen them fight,” she said. “They help each other out. They work on cars together. Mike has Mustangs. Mike has two pitbulls that Cory loves.”
