Well, the oldest horror film that I'm aware of is Georges Méliès's Le Manoir du diable (AKA "The Devil's Castle") (1896).

Sorry, no. I haven't even seen it myself, though I badly want to. Let's hope for some crazy-nice early silent collection sometime.

But I don't think it's available anywhere, and, sadly, might never be.

I agree with Alky up there in terms of depiction of horror, but the first ever true and complete horror movie made is said to be "Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, Das"
aka
"The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari" (1920).

Not a problem, pal. Our best bet might be a TV showing on TCM. They sometimes show early horror silents, like Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, so who knows?

And that you can get. If you haven't seen TCODC, you really oughta'. You can get it in a few multi-packs, and one really nice "by-itself" DVD.

But I recommend a set (and I've recommended it before) called "Fright Fest: Nightmare in a Box". It's a 5 disc set in a tin case, and includes a few earlies like "Cabinet" and Nosferatu.

AMC used to show all of the classics without commercials, now the classics are movies like Gothika that are on everyday. And with commercials.

Hopefully TCM will show it.

I have a copy of Nosferatu, but I need to get myself a copy of, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, soon.

Where can I get that set?
