Little Shop Of Horrors With Mike Nelson

I was wondering if anyone had gotten an advance copy of the new colorized version of Little Shop of Horrors that is coming out. Mike Nelson does the commentary track MST3K-style like he did on Plan 9, which was hilarious. I don't think you can buy it until next week, but I thought someone might have reviewed it yet.

The Little Shop of Horrors isn't a horror movie. It's an extremely funny comedy.

That being said, Legend Films' release of Roger Corman's comedy classic is excellent - the film has never looked better, and the commentary is very funny, too. Not much else except for the color version and commentary, but I don't think anyone expects much else from the company.

Here's the cover of the non-autographed edition, which comes out later this year:

The autographed edition looks like this:

I have both versions...the Nicholson one and the Moranis one...and quite unlike the name, the movie is basically comedy with a dash of horror in it...the Moranis version has some nice catchy tracks in it also...

Mike Nelson autographed it, since he did the commentary. I actually picked one up after I asked about it above, and thought it was a nice addition to my collection. Nelson's commentary was pretty funny, and... I just can't bring myself to hate colorization. I thought that all the flower shop scenes looked pretty cool in color!

PS. You're also very right about this not being a "horror" movie, despite the word appearing in its name. Definitely more of a comedy/spoof.

Personally, I'm just glad to own a copy that doesn't look and sound like crap. The colorization, as with House on Haunted Hill, Plan 9 from Outer Space, and Reefer Madness is very natural looking, although I did notice one major goof-up in the colorization process: Mushnik holding a fork with a piece of green meat on the end of it. I think they might have gotten confused there (the reason the scene is so funny in black and white is because he just witnessed Seymour feeding a human foot to the plant, and then he comes back to the resturant and takes a look at what he's eating and loses his appetite. Although Mike Nelson makes up for this colorization goof by chiming in with "Guess he shouldn't have ordered the Soylent Green.")

If you're interested in checking them out, I just got an email from the folks at Legend for a promotion they are doing in June selling the Mike Nelson Plan 9s and Little Shops for a special rate with some free horror magazine (Screem Magazine) thrown in. It's advertised on their homepage, legendfilms.net

Anyone ever heard of the magazine?
