Local Man Travels With Dead Passenger

Auburn, Washington -- A passenger gave a first-hand account of what took place on board a long-delayed Delta flight from Florida to Salt Lake City where an elderly woman died but no one noticed until after the plane had landed.

"She died with somebody who dearly loved her," said passenger Kelly Hayes.

Hayes was sitting near the 78-year-old woman who was traveling with her husband. Their flight had taken off from Fort Lauderdale Sunday night but had to land in Dallas due to fuel problems.

The plane was there for two hours before heading onto Salt Lake City. Hayes said the husband tried to wake her when the plane landed in Salt Lake City.

"He was nudging his wife, there was a commotion. Someone said there is an emergency going on and called for a doctor," said Hayes.

Hayes recognized the husband as being on the same cruise to the Amazon he had just been on.

"They just enjoyed a beautiful trip, a 25-day trip. What a way to enjoy a life like that," said Hayes.
