Love or Hate there seems to be no in between when it comes to M. Night Shyamalan

Ok, I watched Signs last night (not the first time) and was wondering about why so many people can't stand M. Night Shyamalan's films. Everybody seems to LOVE them or DISPISE them. So I am going to start a poll. Starting with the Sixth Sense, then moving on to Unbreakable, and finishing with Signs. I will not include The Village, for a good reason. I have not seen it and a lot of others haven't as well and this is the best way to avoid those dreaded spoilers. So Start out:

The Sixth Sense.....

Love or hate and why?

Hate it. Sixth Sense is technically well made, but so is every bug-budget Hollywood movie. Not only is the dialogue so bad it's laughable, but the whole movie is a gimmick that would be unwatchable if the twist ending didn't make everyone forget just how extremely average the first two hours really were. An ending doesn't make a movie. If Shymalan wants to mask his poor writing skills with stupid twists, then he should be directing 30-minute television episodes, not feature films. Sixth Sense is basically Hollywood fodder for mainstream audiences who don't expect much creativity out of their films, people who want formula instead of something that veers a bit off the lenear three-act Hollywood plot paradigm. If you like John Travolta and Will Smith movies, then you'll like Sixth Sense. If you like smart, edgy, inde movies not afraid to take risks and ready to rub your face in it, then you won't like it. It's the age-old difference between polished studio-produced glam rock and punk.

Love it. The Acting was superb and the story was engaging. The ending just made it all the better. I love movies that on second viewing you see all the little things you missed the first time around.

6th Sense = Pretty good. I'd give it 7/10.

Unbreakable = Eh... It was decent. The part where Mr. Glass falls down the steps was funny. I'd give it 5.5/10.

Signs = Decent, but not scary. 6/10.

I guess, looking at my scores, I neither love, nor hate him. He is slightly above average and that's it. (IMO, at least.)

I haven't seen The Village, but I'm sure I will.

Like it. The storyline was original, the ending was superb, and the acting was decent. But one thing thats makes a movie for me, is if you enjoy it the second time. I didnt.

Good movie. Don't really love it or hate it, but it was decent. I've seen it more than once, so that has to count for something.

Proof that big budgets and big stars don't make great films. To many diffrent directions at the same time.I strongly feel that what he directs/writes, and the studio promotes are two diffrent things.

He is good, and i like his attempts to take extraordinary situations and inject them into "real life", but i think he tries too hard in the end. Sixth sense was great, but the others a lacking something i cant put my finger on.

Loved the Sixth Sense. Eh, I don't really feel like getting into why, it seems I've talked about him a lot recently :o .
