One man's opinion on King Kong (2005)

King Kong (2005)

(**SPOILERS BELOW!**)

This movie was, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest achievements in film history. Peter Jackson already had my respect, but now he has my servatude- for life. The damn movie didn't have a single dull moment, and here's what I appreciated the most: the amount of respect and homage given to the original 1933 King Kong was unbelievable. Here are some reasons why this film was amazing/notable parts.

*Jackson took every scene and idea from the original and kept it almost identical, but added incredible special effects to make them look better.

*Jackson added an "insect attack scene", a scene that was supposed to be included in the 1933 classic, but mysteriously was excluded.

*Homages galore!
Example 1- When Jack Black is looking for a woman for his movie, he asks if he should use Fay "something". Colin Hanks says no, pointing out that she's making a picture with RKO. (RKO was the company that produced King Kong in 1933)

Example 2- When Naomi Watts is acting out the scene on the boat for the movie, she recites an exact scene from 1933's King Kong.

Example 3- When Jack Black is giving his "Eighth Wonder of the World" show, the band is playing the exact score from the original King Kong

*He kept the time period from the original King Kong- the 1930's. Lately, remakes have been "modernized".

*The music score is almost identicle, with just a small twist of originality.

*By adding a few extra relationships, Jackson creates much more emotion in his rendition of th emovie.

The movie is all but perfect, and it's 100 times better if you're familiar with the 1933 classics. Go see it!

Then go with your parents. Or yourself. Or you're going to regret it, my friend. This is an experience.

I saw it, and I mainly thought its stronger point was its modern effects, which looked nice. I still think the original film is leaps and bounds ahead of this new one--but I am recommending that people go see the new one, because the visuals are worth the price of admission.

I liked it but the first hour just dragged. He should have trimmed the first hour down to 20 minutes for pacing.

i heard it was nonstop action the second they got to the island. I went and saw it and that's true. I also liked how they added a lot of creatures from the original, which only had a few, and the trex scene was my favorite

Completely agree with alky's review, this is a fantastic film and a definite must see for everyone. The first hour isn't slow, it builds the characters nicely and I've said before on other threads Andy Serkis must be recognized for his great work on Kong.

Well, my dad wanted to see it, so we went a couple days ago. Absolutly breathtaking, amazing film.
