Big Lebowski

One of my favourite movies.
I don't know whether it is proper to write this kind of thread here but, i just wonder what you (esp Americans) think about this movie. It is a masterpiece for me, and i feel myself better everytime i see it. Any comments?

Never seen it. In all honesty, I've avoided watching it. I don't think there's any way it could possibly live up to what some people have made of it. One person in particular has told me that it's better than The Godfather. My brain refuses to compute that statement.

Total American classic in my opinon (like a lot of the Cohen brothers films). Really offbeat and well written film with great characters. There was a great run of films like this throughout the late 80s till the mid to late 90s. Films like Drugstore Cowboy, River's Edge, Reservoir Dogs, Clerks, God's Lonely Man, Bad Boy Bubby and Romper Stomper were great independent cinema that gave an alternative to the overblown headache inducing Hollywood cinema of the time. I personally would rate this over the Godfather.

Comparing Lebowski to Godfather seems absurd to me. Not because they're both great movies (They are.) but because they are completely different genres. Lebowski is probably my favorite comedy of all, but as far as comparing it to other great films in other genres... That's like trying to compare Tupac and Nirvana and say which is better. They're totally different. Of course it's a personal taste thing, but I think it's perfectly fine to hold them both in high regard.

Anyways, yeah. Lebowski owns all comedies in my opinion. (I even named my puppy Dude after this film. I want to get another puppy and name him Walter but that's a story for another thread.)

I love The Big Lebowski! "Donnie, you're out of your element!":D

As for it being better than The Godfather... The Godfather has Al Pacino in it for fucks sake! There is no way The Big Lebowski should ever be compared to The Godfather.

And no similarity to compare with the Godfather... Al Pacino is a unique actor, and i don't like to compare uniques. For example, i can not compare him with Jack Nicholson.

Personally, i dont very much like Jeff Bridges as an actor, yet he is awesome in Big Lebowski.

Big Lebowski is such a warm and seductive film :)
