Crime vs Horror

Ok so im confused about this one.
there are a lot of movies out there classafied as horror which are little more than gorey crime flicks. like saw horror but a movie like seven is classafied a crime drama or something like that. last house on the left horror ( ive heared it called many things but youll find it in horror in any video store or catalog) but a movie like the devils rejects ( which is not a sequill to house of 1000 corpses but a spinn off of a horror movie) is called by many critics and even the director a crime explotion movie.
what the fuck is going on???

Genre classification isn't really that important to anyone except those who seek to define it.

However it is an understandable human trait to feel the urge to categorise everything in sight.

It is what you feel it is....

I look at Se7en as a horror movie, others see it as crime drama....I'm not changing my mind about it and most likely wouldn't be able to change anyone else's mind nor do I feel the need to so like I said it is what you feel it is.

My personal idea of a horror movie is any movie that was intended to frighten the audience. Did Se7en try to frighten the audience? Yes, so in my book, that makes it a horror movie.

Sure there are exceptions I guess [IE: Van Helsing wanted to scare the audience in some parts, but I call it an action movie]. But the covers the majority, IMO.

Actually I don't really think that counts...even some comedies have moments where they try to get a jump out of ya. I think your original thought of the movie in it's entirety trying to scare the audience makes it horror.

Exactly what I meant by there are exceptions...there are also movies that I consider horror that had me laughing more than I would at a normal comedy....House on Haunted Hill remake comes to mind, the new 13 Ghosts was pretty funny too [You hunt goats? great line]
