3 year old boy stabs and kills his 2 year old sister

This Happened about a week ago,in my neighborhood, but I was just able to find an article about it. The mother claims she went outside for a "brief second to turn off a water hose." I HEARD her say this on the news, but in this article she was packing a box....? How can a mother of such small babies be so unattentive to them they litterally kill each other? And she can't even keep her story strait....fishy to me. She even said she didn't think her son did it, she said her daughter was probably playing with the knife and fell on it. Either way, if she's lacks the parental skills and common sense to keep knives away from her children she shouldn't have them in the first place.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 2-year-old St. Louis girl died yesterday from a stab wound inflicted by her 3-year-old brother, police said.

Police have identified the victim as Jamarria Bolar.

The incident happened at an apartment on the city’s south side. The godfather of the victim, James Gray, said the children got ahold of a knife while their mother was packing a box preparing to move.

"She was stabbed in the neck by her brother," police spokeswoman Schron Jackson said. She said it was not immediately clear whether the brother intended to hurt her.

Gray said he heard a different account from family members, who told him the child had fallen on the knife accidentally around 1 p.m. The child’s mother grabbed her and ran to a pet-grooming business downstairs from the apartment, where police were called. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital, where she died. "If it’s time for you to leave and God calls you home, you’ve got to go," Gray said. "But my little pumpkin, she was such a sweetheart."

He said the little girl doted on her older brother.

"She was a handful. She was a sweetheart. Everything she looked at was exciting and new," he said.

The boy was in the custody of his father. Jackson said it was not yet certain whether police would seek charges against the parents.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, citing FBI statistics, said that from 1980 through 2003, at least 32 children age 5 or younger were killed by other children 5 or younger in the U.S. Most of those deaths were listed as unintentional acts, but six were classified as murder or nonnegligent manslaughter.
