While I think a lot of the performers genuinely don't like the current situation in Africa I struggle to fathom what this indulgent display ofwelthy westerners will acheive:

*it's not a fundraising event, it's solely to "raise awareness of how bad the situation in africa is.

* If the original live aid was so succesful why did all the millions of supporters go ahead and vote in the reagans and thatchers of the 1980s who did little to remedy the problems in africa

* if the people who are going to the concerts genuinely cared then why don't they join the marchs and lobby groups?

* Aren't most of the acts ageing rock dinosaurs who are using it to boost public profile and pick up ailing CD sales?
This was posted in another forum by someone else but it sums up my thoughts on Live 8 totally.

I don't care much about the politics of it, I mostly just tuned in to see Pink Floyd

hey, at least I'm being honest. I'm not one of those fake hippies the talking morons from MTVH1 interviewed that acted like they gave 2 shits about it. I sat there eating a big 'ol steak while watching it.

LMAO

Since it was brought up, how were they? They were performing with Roger Waters for the first time in years, correct? I didn't watch, I forgot all about it....

this was the first time they'd performed together since they broke up, which was early 80's (just after The Final Cut).

Damn, I can't believe I missed it! I saw Pink Floyd back in '94 and it remains one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

Again, I can't believe I missed this.

this was beyond incredible. And it was only 4 songs. They did Breathe (the full version, a and b), Money, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb. I hit the roof when they started to play Comfortably Numb, since it's my favorite Floyd song, and I wasn't sure they were gonna do anything from the Wall
