I like the way he contradicted himself on mtv about the Napster suing thing...after so long of him saying he didn't want people downloading Meatallica's music off the net....I see an interview with him on VH-1 and he has the balls to say quote "no it wasn't the fact that I didn't want people downloading Metallica's songs, I just didn't want them downloading the new album before it came out"

That statement alone made we wanna shoot him in the face at point blank range....

the mp3 thing drove me mad too ..

Established bands make money from concerts.
downloading mp3s generates interest for the band and make people want to see the concerts.

bands starting out would be tickled pink if people if people downloaded and played their MP3s .. its free advertising - exposure.

the record companies are the ones that lose when mp3s are downloaded .. the guys at the top of the heap.

Most people i know will still but the CD if they really like a band.

I'd like to see the stats because i think MP3s accessability have rejuvinated interest in music the same way that video got people back in the theatre (despite a small lull when it looked like it would kill the theatre going experience and make it obsolete)

It proved to have the opposite effect.

i'd love to see what the real losses are ... and not just what is being given to the press.

Music "stealing" is what made metallica famous in the first place. I think that's the only reason they got into the mainstream, I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me though.

That's not true metallica was in the mainstream way before the internet even existed, granted it did boost their popularity....

I was talking about bootlegs.

you're right about the internet boosting their popularity. I wish they'd stop complaining and realize that the reason they're not making as much money is because their music isn't as good.

They didn't really get all that mad about the bootlegs getting passed around in the early days, at least that I never heard of anyway...

I used to have a cassette copy of the "No Life 'Till Leather" demo, I didn't get banned from Napster for that though...
